Hello!

I'm T. L. Curtis, author and founder of Volo Press! I produce books and create literary lifestyle products such as Reader's Oil and book covers. I was a psychotherapist for nearly 10 years before deciding to follow my dream of being a full-time writer. This campaign is part of making that dream a reality!

What Your Dollars Will Do

Volo Press is a U.S.-based, minority-owned, female-run, micro-business. Getting a booth at the Decatur Book Festival would be a fantastic way to give a huge exposure boost to the business. Any donations would be used to secure a place at the festival where tens of thousands of avid literature-lovers would be present. The festival will take place on September 2nd and 3rd this year. The earlier we pay for the booth, the less we pay, and the less we need to raise (I will be contributing alongside you).

There are also lower cost options that will be employed if funding doesn't reach necessary levels for a full booth. The various options are listed below.

Option 1: $135 by July 31st ($160 any later)
Sell at the Emerging Writers Pavilion

This option allows me to submit 20 books at a time and have them sold at the pavilion. I would not be able to engage with the potential customers, have a book signing, or be given any time to speak.

Option 2: $185 by July 31st ($210 any later)
Sell, Speak, and Sign at the Emerging Writers Pavilion

This option allows me to submit 20 books at a time and have them sold at the pavilion. I will also (as space and time allow) be given the opportunity to have a book signing and speak at the festival.

Option 3: $675 ($825 with electricity) by May 15th for a booth
OR
$725 ($875 with electricity) by July 1st for a booth
OR
$825 ($975 with electricity) by July 31st for a booth.

Add in the cost of buying enough product to last the weekend and GFM's processing fees, and we get to $1500 in the worst-case scenario of paying late for a booth with electricity.

Why This Matters

To me, being able to sustain a living while doing what I love is essential to living a healthy, happy life. I have had the opportunity to do that with psychotherapy. I would like to do the same with my writing. I understand that it might not be easy or quick (regardless of how fun it is!), but I'm willing to be patient, ask for help when I need it, and work hard to make a successful life for myself.

For you, donating to this campaign is a way to show that you care about other people's success alongside your own. It shows that you understand the importance of supporting small businesses and helping to grow local economies for the sake of the nation. It also shows that you are business-savvy enough to understand that no matter how hard someone works, or how good they are at anything, capital is needed to get enterprises off the ground.

When you donate to this campaign, I strongly encourage you to share what you've done with others. Let them see that you know that there is power in people connecting and working together towards a common goal, and that, outside of standing on the sidelines watching, you are one of the players who gets in the game, gets their hands dirty, and shares in the spoils of victory.

Seeing Volo Press at the Decatur Book Festival, I want you to think proudly, "I did that."

Thank you!
