Hello Friends and Family, this 4th of July, Craig is turning 50 and I want to do something big for him!! He really has got to be the most caring, generous, hard working person I've ever met. He is a loving, committed father, husband and friend.  He works an incredibly hard job, never has a minute to himself and somehow he never complains.  He is the kind of person who is constantly looking for ways to make other people's lives easier and happier.  And not just his own family and friends, he puts himself out there for complete strangers every single day in so many ways.  If you know Craig, I can almost guarantee that he has done something unexpected and kind for you or you've seen him go far out of his way to help someone else.  Craig hates to be the center of attention and hates to be acknowledged, so a big party would be a nightmare for him.  He even asked me to start spreading a rumor that his birthday is actually July 5th so everyone would miss it haha!  And if he knew I was planning anything he would probably convince everyone not to do it, so don't tell him!!  I've got a really great idea but I'm going to need all of your help...
I want to raise the money to fix our old pool for him!  He used to love to see our kids and their friends all swimming and having fun and after working sometimes 12-14 hour days doing dishes and cooking in the blazing hot kitchen of AllWays , he'd come home and get in the pool to cool off before even stepping foot in the house.  But our pool is in need of major repairs and has been sitting stagnant for many years now as we don't have the money to fix it.  Honestly, it's been a really depressing and demoralizing thing in our lives.  So I had this crazy idea, that maybe...just maybe, I could get enough people on board to make it happen.  So I've been getting professional estimates.  It doesn't hold water so we had a company come test all the lines to see where it was losing water.  The good news is that the underground lines are all good so we don't have to have the pavement jack-hammered up to have new lines installed.  Unfortunately, the inside of the pool does have to be completely redone, new gunnite, tiles and coping as well as a new cover to protect it over the winter and fixing or replacing the pump and filter.  The least expensive estimate I've got so far is going to be $15,000+.  I know that's a ridiculous amount of money...but I also know how many people love Craig and appreciate the kind of person he is and would love nothing more than to be a small part of doing something incredible for him to show him that who he is makes this world brighter for so many.  I spend a lot of my life wishing I could make Craig's life just a little bit easier, just a little bit happier, and I think this is the perfect way.
Would you consider being a part of this?  If all the people who love him donate money toward this surprise birthday gift, it will add up and we will easily hit our goal.  Would you help me spread the word about this by sharing it on facebook (he hasn't really been on fb for years so I'm not too worried about him seeing this)?  Would you go so far as to mention it to your friends who maybe aren't on fb who you think would like to be a part of it??  Pretty please??  Making this happen for Craig would be a dream come true for me and if anyone deserves something unexpected and amazingly over the top to happen to them, it's Craig <3

Hope this is the right spot, I've been away from Fb for a few yrs! ...But as to the whole turning 50 / wife doing a secret overthetop GFme / nobody accidentally mentioning it to me / and the ridiculous response by way too many people- all I got is "wow". I've been thinking about it all weekend and the so many thoughts and parts of it and what I could say about it, and its just not really possible to knock out in a paragraph or so that would be worth reading, but here I sit now. I mean my wife is pretty amazing, you guys all know that, and I love her for this thing and the million things before this that have helped me get thru all this in a way that has landed me in this moment with the greatest family and group of people around me day to day that I could have imagined. Actually, I can't really comprehend how good I have it most times... I'm just grinding and grinning thru it like most of us do moment after moment. And then blammo- something crazy happens, like this, and I notice things I normally don't think about. Reading thru the list of people who gave to this is pretty awesome and just brings body tears to my whole me. I mean its easy being great to all you guys because you're you, right? A guy would have to be asleep at the wheel to not notice all of you and how great you and we all are. I may not see you as much as I would like to, or call, and all that vibe...or we may not even really know each other super well... but that is totally cool because I know who you are and who your people are and i know appreciating and loving you guys- wherever we are, is the best part of this whole life thing, which is what I've seemed to noticed in the 30 or so years I've been here!! OK, 50... I'm just gonna skip over that part- 1. it beats not being here...and 2. I really didn't see it coming. So, having a functioning pool is going to be pretty sick for me to jump in after sweating to the 80's(not the oldies man, it was yesterday!) in the 90's and 100's like work can do this time of year. So thanks from me. But mostly I think my kids will love having it back (sorry kids, no more frogs, ducks) and the friends they have over and have fun with- it will be a lot of great moments for them so thanks. I wasn't able to make it happen for a few yrs and I think it never would have happened without this. The pool thing seems a fitting spot to remind me of 'emptiness'- some spiritual thought that kinda means that a thing is made up of infinite non-thing parts- like the salad in front of us is made up of sunlight, rain, the plants before the plants in the bowl, the people it took to get that salad in front of us, dirt...etc. I try to see myself this way when i can because anything I have is usually not just a "The Fabulous Craigo" production. Everything I have that looks like something I may have done or made happen is really just a result of probably most of you guys and a little me. I pretty much get that by now. I couldn't get to laugh and smile and have fun and be happy without all of you in my way steering me back... or cry or bitch and complain without you there to listen and help. Thanks for both ! So now my pool will not be empty, but full of water and fun and life again. Someone might come over and be like,"wow, yer pool is sweet!"... and I'll be like," yeah, MY pool, ha!". It's always going to be filled with all the thoughts of all of you for me now and I'll just be out there smiling. Wow, way too long craig... signing offish now- Again thanks to each of you, and thanks to all of you. I love you all and I couldn't do it without you. Pretty sweet way to take the sting off the 50 hit. Sach can do all the photo updates and post the finished and filled look when ready... and then come get yer butts wet or throw a couple kids in and just hang out... or go clean your house while the kids hang here!
Love, Craig

I'm hoping to tell Craig tonight when he gets home from work if he isn't too tired!!! There is plenty of room at the end of the card for me to continue adding names of donors so if you want to be included, you certainly can! And I'll try to get some video <3

Hello Loving Supporters!! While half of me is beyond blown away with the generosity of so many of you, the other half of me is not. The way Craig lives his life every day has an impact on people and I believed you all would want to make sure he knew that it does not go unnoticed. If by some miracle we go beyond our goal of $15,000 I wanted you to know how the money will be used! While I did remember when I picked our goal that GoFundMe takes approximately 5-7%, I didn't factor any money in for repair of or replacement of a pool pump and filter as well as other chemicals and equipment. I'm not too worried about it because Craig has a friend in the pool maintenance business who has offered to try to help us get free used or cheap equipment. But sometimes construction jobs end up being a little more expensive than anticipated (or so I've heard, I've never actually hired a professional to do a job for me!). Anyhow, if by some chance we have some leftover money, we'll use it to extend our very narrow concrete decking around the pool, (which is too narrow to have someone sit in a chair with space for another person to walk by) on one end of the pool so that we can truly enjoy our functioning POOL!!! So if you want to be a part of this awesome display of appreciation for an incredibly deserving guy, continue giving!!

Happy birthday, Craig! Thanks for being such a great cousin! Among many of the wonderful memories I have of you growing up include: your beautiful dishes for family get-together's, Monopoly marathons, your patience for letting us climb on you like you were a tree, a deep commitment to the Black Crowes and your funny and loving ways. So glad you'll have your pool back! Couldn't think of a person more deserving.

Yay! Looks like you'll be getting that pool fixed! For years now, we have heard repeatedly from Cailin about how generous, thoughtful and kind Craig is. Plus, we've had personal experiences eating at the cafe and he's sent out fun stuff just for us to try. You've got a pretty special guy there! Happy, happy to you both!
