Save shelter dogs to honor Cooper

Donation protected
I met my soulmate at the South Los Angeles animal shelter (a shelter that kills 14,000 animals every year) in May of 2006. Little did I know that this shy little puppy would make such a difference in my life. I thought I was saving him, but he was actually saving me.

This dog became my family and the love of my life. I had never let myself get too attached to anyone growing up bouncing around in foster care, but this dog stole every bit of my heart and soul. I love him with everything in me, and I know he loved me back which was a big deal for me.

I struggle with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. When I had nightmares, Cooper was there. When I had panic attacks, Cooper was there. When I felt overwhelmed with life, Cooper was there. When I felt so lonely and alone in the world, Cooper was there. He saved my life more than once and forced me to be active and seek adventure in the world. Bringing him joy made me so happy. He was my whole world.

Cooper's life was suddenly, tragically, and traumatically cut short by a rupture in his spleen caused by a horrible cancer called hemangiosarcoma. I am absolutely devastated but so grateful for the 10 years I got to be with this amazing loving soul.

The animals at this shelter are not damaged throwaways. They are not second best. The animals at this shelter are loving souls looking for their mates. They are heroes waiting to love someone unconditionally.

In honor of the dog that saved my life, I would like to save the lives of as many South LA shelter dogs as possible by paying for their adoption fees so No-Kill shelters and other rescuers can get these dogs to safety and into loving homes.
