Bringing Awareness to Compassion
I am David. I live to bring awareness to compassion. For more than six years I've been asking people to share their written concept of the word compassion in a notebook. Through this simple action I've been able to self-publish a compilation book, facilitate discussions on compassion, do interviews, be the subject of a few documentaries, and be present as a "street therapist" for those in search of spiritual healing.
In early 2013, I spearheaded a project to be the first monument built in honor of compassion—the Compassion Corner Earthbench in Davis, CA. It was a community-built art project in collaboration with Earthbench builder Brennan Bird and local mosaic artist Mark Rivera. The bench is made out of trash and earth. It brought together close to 200 people over the course of a few weeks to help create a space for people to sit and reflect on the ideas of compassion and sustainability.
I recently completed a Compassion Tour, a yearlong exploration of compassion spending time in different communities worldwide. It started on September 3rd, 2014 in Keene, New York for a month followed by Burlington, Vermont; Lodi, New Jersey; Louisville, Kentucky; Tampa, Florida; Austin and San Antonio, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Portland, Oregon; and finishing in Seattle, Washington. During my stay in each city I asked its citizens to share their written concept of compassion in a notebook while documenting the experience via blogs, photos, video blogs, and storytelling. I started a second compilation book which will include some of the anonymous responses received as well as my own commentary on the experience and anecdotal events that take place.
I am seeking financing in order to continue bringing awareness to compassion and for subsequent traveling to other places that have voiced interest in me visiting their community. I need your help to continue helping others and to continue bringing inner peace to those who seek it. I offer gratitude and my heart for whatever you are able to give.

I continue to bring awareness to compassion and incredibly grateful to do so, especially during these times. In mid-April, I plan to attend the 22nd Annual Festival of Faiths in Louisville, KY. Over the four-day period, it will bring together and celebrate multi-faith communities worldwide through speakers, panels, art, and music. This year's theme is "Compassion: Shining Like the Sun."
I attended the festival during the Compassion Tour in 2015 and know many of the people involved with the festival and others who will be attending. While there, I was invited to join a speaking circle called "Tea Time" during lunch breaks, inviting people to write their concept of compassion in the notebook. The purpose of going this year is to add to the growing awareness of compassion with others who are doing the same.
I am asking for contributions to help cover expenses, adding up to approximately $1,200. I am grateful for any support you can offer. Every little bit helps.
Thank you and blessings of peace and love to you.
Still working away at the next book. Got all the relevant stories out into a document and now working on next steps--editing, research, polishing, book proposal.
Here are a few more photos from the tour while in Louisville.
