DOG RESCUE NEEDS PERMANENT HOME
GOAL:  $50,000 (to purchase house and one acre)
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: We were advised on Sunday that we are losing our home. I have started a GoFundMe page hoping to raise the money to buy our house and stay here. Would you please be so kind as to share our story?
Growing up as an only child, my best friend was my collie, Lassie.  I have loved animals all my life, so it was not surprising that I became involved in rescuing dogs from the streets, rehabilitating them and finding good homes.  In 2002 I formed Companion Animal Network and became a 501c3 organization.  We continued to take in strays as well as rescuing dogs on the euthanasia lists at shelters around the state.  Our average number of adoptions per year were 100 until 2009.
One of our current FostersWhen the economic recession took hold, I lost the support of almost all my donors.  In 2010 I lost my job and my home -- and still had many dogs to care for.  I was blessed to find the perfect place:  a small cottage on an acre of land in central Texas.  Through the financial support of two devoted couples I was able to put up field fencing around the acre and, through subsequent donations, supported us by funding the creation of two separate kennels from the detached, two-car garage. We have put so much love and effort into caring for this site including clearing the land, installing ceramic tile, and many other improvements.

The property owners are kind and caring, but due to their own personal situation must now sell this property as soon as possible and will be putting it on the market now.  We are devastated. The dogs are happier here than they have ever been.  They love to run and play, chase the squirrels, birds and gophers.

We now exist on my Social Security check which is approximately $1500 per month.  I have cut back on every expense that is not an absolute necessity.  Rent and electric bills take most of that.  Dog food for the dogs alone is approximately $250 per month.  They must have heartworm preventative, and flea and tick preventative, and of course, be kept current on vaccinations.
Two of our Fosters - now adopted

My GOFUNDME goal is to purchase this house and one acre outright which would ensure a roof over our heads and, without a rental payment, would allow me to properly care for my dogs until they find their forever homes.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS REQUEST IS NOT INTENDED SIMPLY AS A HOME FOR ME, BUT RATHER TO PROVIDE AND MAINTAIN A VIABLE FOSTER HOME FOR THE DOGS.  I have several senior dogs and one hospice dog at the moment and they likely will be dependent upon me for the rest of their lives.  We rescue, rehab and rehome any and all dogs abandoned here, as well.  Last year a litter of four puppies were abandoned at the railroad track (all now adopted), and a blind, starving Golden Retriever was also abandoned, among others. The Golden Retriever is now adopted and living in Oregon and is in the photo at the top of our story.

We appreciate your help so that we can continue to help these deserving souls.  Thank you.
