Help for Col. Potter Cairn KayJay

Tax deductible
KayJay is a red brindle Cairn that just turned 5 years old. For the last two years she has been treated for skin issues and multiple infections without relief. Two months ago she came to Col. Potter Cairn Rescue as an owner surrender. Immediately, treatment began for allergies that had flared into a skin yeast infection, chronic itching and low thyroid. Rectal bleeding was also noted and when a fecal test returned negative, it was assumed that it was related to her other medical conditions. After a month of treatment her skin condition improved dramatically and her thyroid levels were normal, but there was still small amounts of blood evident in her stool. A second opinion for this resulted in treating her for colitis with antibiotics and probiotics. The condition was still present after 10 days of treatment and one incident of a more than usual bleeding led to seek help from a specialist. On her first visit to the specialist an abdominal ultrasound was performed with normal results. The specialist prescribed 4 days of Panacur to eliminate the possibility of parasites and a sample stool was sent to the lab for a comprehensive fecal test. If the results are negative then a colonoscopy will be performed in two weeks. The cost for this test runs $1800- $2000.

KayJay was once described as a shy and fearful dog that would bark and lose control at the sight of a car, a stranger or another dog.  She did not play much because she spent most of her time scratching or biting her skin.  The place she was most at home was in her crate because she did not feel confident anywhere else.

Today KayJay loves to walk three or four times a day and now when she barks it is out of excitement to greet a dog or a person that passes. It is no longer out of fear. She has learned how to greet other dogs like a lady and enjoys the attention she receives from other people and especially children.  She is evolving into an “adaptable’ dog that is eager to please and loves to play and receive affection.  Sometimes she forgets and loses her confidence, but after a calm, loving assurance  she remembers who she really is and settles back down.  This little girl will bring so much love and joy to a family…we look forward to her being completely healed so that she can move forward in life.

Anything you can contribute is much appreciated!
