Help for Col. Potter Cairn Isla

Isla is an 8 year old female who came into the Col. Potter family after living a life of horrendous neglect or abuse. Even though enduring a number of medical challenges, Isla has never been aggressive and as her medical issues are being treated her sweet personality is starting to shine through. While she still doesn’t “play”, she does put her little paws out to attract our attention as though she is getting ready to do so. For now, she prefers to just quietly lie near her foster parents waiting for a gentle petting or soft treat. The fear of being touched anywhere near the top of her head (probably due to abuse) is gone and she is finally learning to trust. It is remarkable to see what progress she has already made because Col. Potter continues to do whatever it takes financially to see that she is given every chance to succeed.

When she is ready, she will make someone a wonderful companion. The most pressing health issue when she arrived at her foster home was her weight, the bleeding sores in her mouth, dry eyes, and tenderness in her abdomen. She was almost skeletal and her bones could be felt right at the skin on her back. She didn’t seem interested in food at first but the addition of enzymes to wet food has helped and she has gained more than 3 pounds with a few more to go. It is possible that the dental problems caused her too much pain for her to want to eat. Expensive and very extensive dental work that included a number of extractions has been done and the bleeding from sores has stopped. Due to her lack of past care, Isla is blind in one eye but her other eye has stabilized with use of twice daily eye drops. She has had a number of X-Rays and other tests to rule out tumors but so far, only pancreatitis and a slight heart murmur have shown up and are not causing her any problems.

Her ears were so impacted with debris and past untreated infections that she has a slight loss of hearing. Arthritis in her back legs gives her some trouble when she first gets up but once she gets over the “wobblies”, she can run with her foster brothers and loves to go for walks. She is taking medication for the arthritis and will need to continue that for the time being.

Won’t you help pay the medical bills for this little No Cairn at all girl? She is primarily a Pomeranian and Schnauzer mix but also all heart and an example what rescue is all about.

Thank you for your time, she is worth it.
