Help CoCo Belle Bleu Play Again

Hi, I’m CoCo Belle Bleu – most everyone just calls me CoCo, or The Belle, or CoCo Puff, or stinky-tinky, or The Princess or my newest nickname, Toddles. I think that last one has something to do with the way I am currently walking - very slowly and a little crooked. I will be 5 years old in October, but right now I feel like I am a lot older.

I hurt my back. I don’t remember doing it so I cannot explain to the humans exactly what happened. But the pain sometimes makes me cry out, even in my sleep.

Surgery is possible; but first the humans want to try physical therapy and medication.

The anti-inflammatory medication seemed to help but it made me sick – my tummy couldn’t handle that medicine. And the expensive pain medicine makes me sleepy – but that’s good the humans say because then I am still and quiet and resting my injury. Neither of these things are what I want to be doing. I just want to walk and survey my territory. I am gracious and allow other dogs to wonder on my territory - I do make sure to mark over their messes. But I just have not been able to properly manage my territory with this injury. I cannot even walk around my yard.

My humans have added to my staff: the great doctors and technicians at TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation of Grayslake, IL. Check out my really cool goggles I wear when I get the laser therapy. And then I get electrocuted – not really – but kinda – it’s called Hakopain management. My human says that it is like the TENS therapy humans receive. Oh, and I get ice packs throughout the day … and when I wake up in the night crying my human immediately gets me a fresh ice pack.

My humans have to carry me, keeping my back straight, everywhere. And I cannot jump up onto any of my favorite furniture, and especially I am not allowed to jump off anything at all - ever- again. I can't eat in a regualr position just yet so I am being "hand" fed. Ahh, the life of a Princess is awesome ... except for the pain.

During one of my trips to TOPS my chariot began to smoke. After my treatment I saw it get lifted onto a big truck. I have not seen it since and have been using my other humans car to get to my appointments. I heard my humans say they will just make do with one car for now since I am more important.

I almost forgot – I am a comfort animal for my human. She has Multiple Sclerosis and isn’t as active as some of the other humans in the neighborhood. When she has her weekly injection she is a couch potato for the day and I am her little potato tot. We cuddle and watch movies. On the other days I help her be active – I show her around my territory during my daily survey walks.

So far my medical bills have totaled $2,122.18 and are anticipated to be an additional $1,200. This could increase significantly if a disc surgery is required. We're keeping our paws crossed that physical therpay will be sufficient.

My human is very concerned about paying for my treatments and medicine, not to mention the very expensive surgery that is still possible. If any of you could help my human out, it would in turn help me out. I would be so very grateful for your help in comforting my human; since I cannot perform my regular comfort duties at this time.

Any money collected which exceeds my medical bills & care costs will be given to TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation of Grayslake to help others who have humans struggling to pay for their care.
