Making a Difference - Choctaw 2014

$790 of $1,000 goal

In 2013 a small home-based church group began looking for ways to go out and serve the Lord. There was no shortage of opportunities, but our hearts kept being pulled by God to the Choctaw Indians in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. We met up with a much larger team from Texas, and as you can see, our experience from 2013 (please watch this video slide show) was an amazing one. The hand of God moved as relationships were developed and people were touched. If you didn't click on the link and watch the video slide show, please go back and do so now. Words cannot describe what you will see.

As we began preparing to serve the Lord again in 2014, we couldn't deny a strong tug to go back and serve the people in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi and the surrounding areas. We didn't just leave behind memories; there are people there that we miss and we love, and we are ready to go and show the love of the Lord to them again.

We will spend eight days in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, and our expectation is that we will lead Bible studies, host a Vacation Bible School, serve children in need at summer day camps, help the needy with repairs and maintenance, build relationships, and show the love of Christ to a community that so badly needs to see it.

We are called to Bogue Chitto again in 2014, but mission work is not free. We would like to ask our friends, families, co-workers, and brothers and sisters in Christ to consider sponsoring all or part of this trip. We know there are those out there who want to make a difference, some of which have a heart for the Native Americans, but cannot make a trip like this. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to do just that. We are seeking to raise $5000, which would cover most of the travel , food, housing, and incidental expenses along the way.

Will you please prayerfully consider donating to our mission trip? We realize there are no shortage of needs in this world, and we all want our generosity to make the most impact. Having been to Bogue Chitto, there is no doubt the need is there, and the impact in 2013 was amazing. We are confident the Lord is going to build upon that again this year - will you please help?

Our mission trip to the Choctaw in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi is over for this year. I sincerely want to thank everyone who contributed. There were some who could not have come on this trip without your help.

Talk about contrasts! I have just woken from a nice night of sleep in a fairly new Hampton Inn hotel in Tupelo, Mississippi. Praise God for hotel poinnts! Tonight we will be sleeping on air mattresses in one of two buildings in a church in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Praise God for our hosts which have provided us a building to sleep in!

While the nice, new hotel room has much more curb appeal, the truth is that tonight we will begin establishing relationships with other Christians who will serve this week with us. I, for one, am looking forward to it.

Tonight is also the World Series of Stickball, and the hometown team, Bok Cito (how the Choctaw spell Bogue Chitto) will be playing Pearl River in the championship game.

Depending on connectivity while we are gone, this could be my last post about this trip, though if I can get a cell signal, there will be more. You can also read some updates and probably see some pictures at my new blog: www.365daysofme.com.

We are still looking for donations to help pay for the travel costs. We have enough to pay for the suburban now, but we still need money to pay for the gas. Won't you please consider giving?

Today is the day!!! We leave this afternoon for the first leg of our journey. We're staying over tonight in Tupelo, Mississippi (praise God for hotel points!), and then tomorrow we will drive a few more hours to Bogue Chitto.

There were several new donations yesterday, and we are getting close to our goal. I will continue to ask though - won't you consider a small donation to help pay for the transporation on this trip? Any amount helps.

During the week I hope to post updates here, and I will leave the fundraiser open until we get home. Once again, thank you to all who have given and all who are praying for us. May you be blessed by God.

I want to thank each of the folks who have donated recently. In addition to what is shown here, we also have two verbal commitments of money that is being mailed. Even so, we are still just barely over halfway to our goal. Once again, I would ask that if the Lord is speaking to you about this, please consider donating. Any amount will help, and if you prefer you can give anonymously.

Thanks again.
