Once Chelseas' dream was to sing, to be on American Idol, to travel and see the world., maybe to even be famous one day! Like every young woman she was excited to become an adult and to experience all the wonders that were waiting for her out there.
Now,............... her only dream is to someday walk again!
My name is Laurie Penman and I'm like a second mom to Chelsea Black. She's been BFF's with my daughter Lauren since sophomore year, anout 4.5 years now. She's stayed at my house many times, we laughed and cried together, I consider her my adopted daughter. Like many teens Chelsea is headstrong and very determined......I'm praying that will be a blessing in disguise now.
It Couldn't Happen to Me
During the first week of November Chelsea,an innocent, was shot in a drive by, while riding in a car with friends in Chicago. You think this only happens in bad areas, or to someone else......but you just never know. At this moment we still do not know who did this to her, or ig there will ever be justice brought. When she came into the hospital she was identified only as Yazmine Doe.........it wasn't until 2 am in the morning that they found her ID and contacted her mother, my friend Liz.
Since the shooting we've all been praying for a miracle. The bullet ripped thru the back of her neck tearing her spinal column area and we still do not know if she is going to recover from this. She's already had the surgery to repair her neck with pins......she's on a breathing machine because she cannot breathe on her own, she's also trached, which is hard because of all things, .............Chelsea LOVES to sing......and aspired to be a singer one day.
HOW YOUR GENEROSITY CAN HELP
Chelsea is going to require constant medical attention, feeding tubes,ostomy bags,machinery at this point to breathe for her,therapy,counseling and God only know's what else. Life has completely changed for this young woman. Chelsea is the sweetest,most caring girl......she is only 19 years old. Her quality of life from this day forward may depend on your caring and generous hearts.
Her mother is planning on using the money for Chelseas care and comfort, and possibly further down the road, a home. The funds are needed immediately as right now Chelsea's mother Liz is missing work to be there by her daughters bedside, massaging her arms and legs, comforting her and trying to help in any way she can.
Chelsea has come a long way to be stopped in her tracks this way. Please help us to continue helping her.
I pray that thru the kindness of strangers, that her life will be enriched. Please share this post..... I cannot tell you how much this means to me......I would give anything right now just to hear her laugh!
