CKCSC/GH Harvey Relief Fund

$6,265 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 54 people in 10 months

I'm asking for help on behalf of our club so that we can aid Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners and their pets (whether they're club members or not) all over the greater Houston area. Your donations will go directly towards cleanup, new crates, bedding, food, toys, grooming, food, and medical needs for dogs belonging to displaced and affected owners, and also to help approved volunteers safely transport dogs to approved fosters with our national Cavalier Rescue Trust while their families recover from this ongoing and still-worsening disaster.

Our membership is made up of Cavalier owners and lovers from the greater Houston area and other parts of Texas, and several of them have been directly and profoundly affected by the ongoing flooding catastrophe that has resulted from Hurricane Harvey.  If we can help them and others with their dogs, it's a small thing, but as anyone with a dog knows, they're family!

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater Houston, Inc. is recognized and licensed by the American Kennel Club. Established in 1997, our club is registered and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Our club is also a member club of the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, our national breed club.  We are very active in the greater Houston area in promoting responsible dog ownership and all aspects of living with and enjoying our wonderful breed, and we also fundraise for and support our national Cavalier Rescue Trust.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions, and thank you so much for your support.
Kindest regards,

--Robyn Futcher, Director, The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater Houston, and on behalf of president Dorothy Swanson and the board members

We're over halfway to our goal of $10,000, thanks to all of our donors. I can't say enough how grateful I am for all of you. On behalf of president Dorothy Swanson and all our board members, THANK YOU again.

Things are still far from normal here. In many areas, outwardly you wouldn't necessarily know anything has happened: it's clear, dry and the flowers are all still blooming. But on every other side street, feeder road, and neighborhood there is still active flooding and the constant helicopters, orange cones, detour signs and emergency vehicles remind you that Houston is hurting badly.

My husband and I went out yesterday to try and do the first real errands since the storm: it took us over three hours to get back home, a trip that normally only takes 20 minutes. And at one point on one of the official detours we had to drive through receding, but still deep, water to do it--I thought for sure we were going to get stuck. We also saw a high-water rescue! Even now, people are still driving into spots they shouldn't.

Please share our campaign. With your help we're going to be able to make a significant and very positive difference for Cavalier folks and their dogs who have been impacted by the flooding.

We've raised nearly half our goal in 48 hours! Thank you again to everyone who's donated. Your generosity will allow us to make a big difference to those who need it.

Someone wrote this morning not to forget Cavaliers in other areas that have flooded--I agree. Our outreach states that it's for the greater Houston area, but of course if someone with a Cavalier needed help in *any* of the areas here in Texas that flooded, of course we would be glad to do whatever we could. The full scope of the flooding is so vast, and many people are still on their knees--it'll be some time yet before we can try and find everyone who might need assistance with their dogs.

(It's important for me to say here that of course we care about ALL pets and their people...within the scope of our little club, though, we're focusing on area Cavaliers and their families.)

I want to thank EVERYONE who has donated so far--you've helped us raise $2,755 in 24 hours!

Your kindness and generosity will allow us to make a difference to people and their dogs who have been affected or evacuated from their homes--we can help clean up, replace crates, bedding, toys, food, meds, bathe and groom dogs, and safely get dogs who need it into foster with the Rescue Trust via volunteers here in Houston who can pick the dogs up.

Hurricane Harvey may be gone, but the flooding it left behind is devastating and its effects are going to be felt here for a long time to come. Your gifts will make a difference!
