Carol's Wheelchair Van

Hello, I’m Carol, a disabled veteran with MS. Since my MS is not service connected, must pay for the hand controls, specialized drivers seat, ez lock for wheelchairs and the van myself. The VA will only pay for the conversion. I served 6 years in the Navy, 3 of those years on 2 ships. I loved the cruises and the places I went. In 2011, I was diagnosed with MS, my MS has progressed to the point that I’m in a wheelchair, I can no longer safely transfer into my car.  I would love my independence back!  An accessible van would give me the freedom to drive to all my appointments, visit my grandchildren or just get out of the house.  I currently depend on family and friends to take me everywhere or to pick up the items I need.  Due to my falls, I have become house bound, missing out on the little things in life.  The wheelchair van will be equipped with hand controls, transfer seat and wheelchair lockdown, allowing me go places on my own.  I’m not one to ask for money, with the van costs around $70,000.00, I realize that I must ask for help.  So, I’m reaching out to friends and family to help me with money for a down payment $20,000.00. I have always been able to take care of myself, until now, but I have faith that an accessible van is within my reach.
