Cricket the Canine needs Care!

Donation protected
A couple of days ago when I walked into work- a mental health service for those with severe mental illness-  I noticed my co-worker was holding this adorable little teacup Yorkie. I immediately asked about the pooch and her owners. My co-worker informed me that this little pup was brought to her by a member who obtained her from a crack user. Judging by the dogs illnesses, she wasn't being caring for her properly. For all we know she could have been stolen or sold for drugs. My partner and I decided to foster her while we tried to find her owners, but if we couldn't we would gladly add her to our family. We were calling her Cricket in the event that we were able to keep her. In the mean time we took her to the vet for a check up. She was scanned for an i.d. chip but she didn't have one which made her ours! While we were unable to find her family we did find a list of surgeries and treatments she desperately needs. We'd love this little baby and we need help affording the bills.

For starters Cricket needs an operation on an umbilical hernia, a condition in which abdominal contents protrude through the abdominal wall and could potentially lead to life threatening complications if the intestine were to become entrapped. She also has a urinary infection caused by bladder stones. These stones are causing her great discomfort and pain when she tries to urinate or defecate. The stones are also causing her urine to be bloody. Yorkies are known to be a peppy breed, however Cricket has done little but lay on a towel and strain for minutes at a time to pass even the smallest amount of urine. Next on her list of pains is a severe case of ear mites, it took our vet nearly 20 minutes just to partially clean her ears. When she has to energy she scratches, shakes and rubs her ears against things desperately trying to sooth the irritation. Because she has ear mites we've had to section her off from the dog we already have so she doesn't catch them. This means Cricket has been unable to cuddle with us on the couch or in bed as she appears to be accustom to doing.   If ear mites are left untreated it is possible for the dog to suffer hearing lost. Her teeth are also severely neglected and will require extensive cleaning and care. In our time with her it has been difficult to get her to eat very much as we think her teeth may be causing her pain. This little pup is already so tiny, if she is unable to eat she will disappear completely!  She is also in need of a plethora of vaccines for heart worms, rabies, distemper, bordetella, and leptospirosis to spare her from any more medical hardship.

The cost for her first visit as a new patient and for blood work alone (she hasn't had any surgeries or treatments yet) has set my partner and me back nearly $400. I have two jobs and my partner is currently in between jobs. We are struggling to pay the vet bills on top of our rent, my chiropractor bills, and my partners diabetic needs. I never expected to go to work and come home with this adorable little Yorkie. But she stole our hearts and now we're asking for help to give her the proper treatment she needs so that she can be healthy and safe and enjoy her new home as much as possible. Cricket, my partner, and I would thank you for your kind help immensely!

Did we mention how adorable she is?
