Canadian Vet and Family Help Texas

Donation protected
UPDATED ON SEPT 12, 2017
Timeline of departure from Nova Scotia to Texas is between the end of September to mid October.

Canadian Army Veteran Robert Dobson,  along with his wife and two daughters, will be filling up his Motorhome with the donations, and delivering them in person, then joining the Taskforce to do some hands on volunteer work with Taskforce Bayou Thunder in Houston Texas.

His wife Sherry and their childen have a safe place to stay in Texas while Robert volunteers.

"What an incredible lesson to teach our children, dream big, help others, and you can do anything you set your heart and mind to."

Robert and his family will be using their own money for their personal needs during the trip, ensuring that all donations go toward the effort.

We live in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia, so this will be a long trip. But the supplies that are needed in Texas are in such bounty here, and very short supply there, making this trip worth the kms.

We don't know how big or small this effort will become. We know that we want to do something to show our support and make a difference to those impacted by the devastation.

We are working together with an organization named Combined Arms, located in Houston Texas. Their coordinator, who is affiliated with the Travis Manion Foundation, is identifying the needs of Taskforce Bayou Thunder, which is a cooperative lead by Combined Arms to provide sustained volunteer opportunities to Houston area military veterans in response to the Harvey Flood.

This gofundme page has been created for those who wish to donate funds to go toward the project. Every cent will be used toward the effort through the purchase of equipment and supplies needed. If there are any monies left once completed, we will give it directly to the Combined Arms Organization to continue their efforts in Houston.

We will provide a manifest of donations, and be completely transparent or our Facebook page , so you can see where your donations go.

We are collecting identified needs such as hardware, tools, push brooms, mucking stuff, anything drywall related i.e. tape, putty etc. and deliver it to the Taskforce.
If you would like to donate these items, please contact us via our Facebook page or [email redacted] or Twitter
we can arrange picking them up.

Other items in desperate need are cleaning supplies, which of course as they are mostly liquid and chemical based, would make crossing the border difficult if not impossible.

So we will be purchasing these items after crossing, the border in Maine, where no shortage exists. We will use donations collected here toward these items.

We are also asking for Walmart or other gift cards that can be used in the US. We have checked on Walmart so far, and the cards purchased here in Canada can be used in the US, of course they will be hit with the inevitable exchange rate. If you would rather donate a giftcard, please let us know so we can arrange getting them to Robert.

If you would like to speak directly to Robert, contact us with your number, and we will make that happen.

There is a humbling quote "If not me, then who" that sums up why we are doing this.
