GoFundMe Artist Statement:

"Since 1991, I have shared my life as a multi-media artist who also deals with the beautiful challenges of mental health illness, recovery from abuse and addiction, as well as how to remain creative in the face of these and economic challenges. I also celebrate the joy of living as a spiritual and sexual being "“ all through the arts. I am very grateful for my patronesses and patrons over the years, and for the way technology has grown to so support the arts. More artists are receiving funding now than ever before, and much more than the conventional granting sources of the past.
When I asked you, my fans, supporters, readers, audience, friends, lovers, family, and strangers who dig what I do, to help me when my partner died and I needed to move suddenly, you came running to help, and I thanked you. When I announced a Megabus Tour and set off for the first stop of Michigan, you were there. When I announced my plans to produce the next Black Women's Arts Festival in the SanFrancisco/Bay Area of California USA, you cheered your support!
As I now continue the task of preparing to leave the east coast, I ask for your patience and attention to my news and progress.
Any donations coming in at this time will assist me in creating saleable product that will create income for me to raise needed funds to not only move out of the Philadelphia area, but attain gainful employment or other funds to sustain myself in the city where the next BWAF will be produced.
I really appreciate your ongoing donations, care packages, postal letters, emails, well-wishes, positive visualizations, and prayers.
Thank you for your continued support of my art/work, and therefore, life."

Hello, Friends!

I am very happy to be greeting you again after many months (7 to be exact)!

Update: I am still living my renaissance negresse life of artistic and creative output while addressing the "life skills" issues as of late (the death of a partner in March 2013, and living in a homeless shelter since early June 2015).

Here are two things to read as I continue living and occasionally post updates here:

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your continued support of my art/work, and therefore life! I have an update for you!
According to my GoFundMe campaign page (, my last update was 3 months ago. Much has happened since then, much work done, much art created, and much progress made on the personal, and professional fronts.
I am closing this campaign (as thanks to you it was 119% successful!) and will return very soon with several more to promote and grow my latest projects, including the Black Women's Arts Festival (Philadelphia's 9th in 2015 and New Orleans's 1st in 2016) and its sister project the Women's Writing & Spoken Word Series (September thru December 2014 at two Philadelphia venues), and my new music and several new chapbooks and workshops.
Perhaps most importantly, I am preparing to return to my beloved University City! (Update about East Germantown wimmin's/raw community house coming soon as well.)
So, it wasn't time to move to California, but where the universe closes a window, a door is opened, hence all the beauty you see above and will be hearing about soon.
Meanwhile, I must thank again all of you who supported my move after the passing of my partner Tom in March of 2013. You donated funds, computer equipment, public transportation passes, words of love, support and understanding about dealing with mental health issues and the loss of a love.
I am very grateful to be alive in this time and in this city if rich possibility. To be a multi-media healing artist in Philadelphia in 2014 is a blessing indeed. And to have supporters such as yourselves makes it all that much better.

Thank you and see you soon!

In utmost gratitude and necessary joy,

P.S. Check out my new website!

Return to Philly/BWAFs in DC, NOLA & NE!

Dear closest friends, family, and my interested readers on The Facebooks and The Twitters! :-)

Details soon forthcoming in my next Me! Me! Me! Museletter, but for now I wanted to give you a major update"¦

After 7 months of living 1.5 hours outside of Philadelphia and hoping to produce a Black Women's Arts Festival in the San Francisco Bay Area of California in the next coming year or two, something entirely unexpected and wonderful has happened!

I've been hired to establish and work as property manager in a women's cooperative household "“ my longtime dream - in Philadelphia! I am also putting my energies into what I've discovered is my true calling - to co-produce and participate in Black Women's Arts Festivals worldwide.

The BWAF is the perfect venue for the renaissance negresse to sell her wares while helping to promote self-identified Black women in the arts, and creating top-notch, soul enriching community cultural arts events and attendance/volunteer/organizing/sponsorship/advertising opportunities for all respectful persuns!

Knowing I'll have a place to stay while not worrying about rent has allowed me to throw myself fully into the joyous work of growing my own career goals from the heart.

I've long wanted to travel with the Black Women's Arts Festival and now I can, because I've started dialogues with three wimmin to co-produce a BWAF in their neck of the woods or part of the world!

Right now, we're working on co-producing three (3) BWAFs in the USA:

1) Washington, DC (BWAF DC)

2) New Orleans, Louisiana (BWAF NOLA)

3) Omaha, Nebraska (BWAF OMAHA)

(If you'd like more information about the latest plans for the BWAF, check out The Black Women's Arts Festival Newsletter - 24 March 2014

The plan for my forming group house so far is to move there in June or before (in just a couple of months). Before that, I'll be creating and circulating ads for this group house, which will be modeled largely after the diverse wimmin's cooperative household I lived in West Philly from 1990-1994, the happiest four years of my life.

The house is in East Germantown, just a few blocks from La Salle University.

I'm looking for 4 housemates interested in healthy, intentional, cooperative living, and living as naturally as possible, with things like recycling, composting, maximizing natural light, as well as being a vegetarian or vegan and raw food-friendly environment. Of course it will be feminist, queer-friendly, and poly-friendly also, as I am those things. No pets so far, but we're flexible on that if the perfect housemate comes along who happens to have and live responsibly with one.

Rent for each of the available four (4) rooms is $350 plus utilities (water, gas and electric), and the rooms vary in size, first come first served. Available June 1 or earlier.

The recently renovated sunny house has 5 bedrooms, 3 floors, a basement, a backyard, and a porch, washer and dryer on the premises. It's very close to the Broad Street/Orange line as well as other SEPTA buses. Free parking out front.

Contact me (here, or email cxmusic(at) if you're interested, or just wait for the complete and detailed housemate ad to come out!

I'm very happy and excited about this opportunity to not only make my dream come true of creating a wonderful wimmin's group house, enrich the community this house will be part of, and I'm also thrilled to be able to leave and travel and return to a comfortable home as I grow my career as a working artist with the Black Women's Arts Festival!

Thanks for your interest and your continued support of my art/work, and therefore, life.

I am so glad to read that things are going much better for you. I heard you sing in the train station in Philly several years ago. You and your music made me feel so much better during a very difficult time for me. I still listen to your CD when I need to relax. I wish I had more to give you but every little bit helps, even if just to lift our spirits! You will remain in my thoughts and if any extra money comes my way, I will pass it on to you as I am sure you will do someday for others in need! Keep smiling through the rain while you await the rainbow.
