Chicago Dramatists - For the Future

WE NEED YOUR HELP
(Day 22 of campaign)

In 1979, a handful of playwrights began meeting in a basement to share their passion for new plays and their struggles as artists and storytellers.  Led by Russ Tutterow, they created Chicago Dramatists, an organization guided by a central conviction that modern and emerging voices have as much to offer Chicago theater audiences as the classics.

Over 40 years, Chicago Dramatists has launched the careers of some of the country’s most notable playwrights (see the list below). The organization is evolving to make a larger impact for today’s artists. Right now, the organization needs immediate financial support to meet a budgetary gap while we continue to implement improved programming and grow new audiences. We are asking for your help in closing this gap.

Chicago Dramatists recognizes that supporting new plays means supporting the storytellers, giving breath and nourishment to untold stories and diverse experiences. It means cultivating underserved and overlooked communities to learn their truths. It means creating an artistic home where playwrights, directors, actors and audiences collaborate during play development.

For so many, from all walks of life, Chicago Dramatists is where the story begins. It’s where one story can touch the lives of thousands.

By supporting Chicago Dramatists, you are enriching American culture and nourishing the hearts and souls of audiences across the country. You are enabling the work of modern-day storytellers and strengthening understanding across communities.

Please support us now through October 28th by donating to this campaign and sharing this campaign with others.

Your support at work:

Over four decades, Chicago Dramatists has served hundreds of playwrights who have contributed thousands of new plays to the American canon. Work developed at Chicago Dramatists is regularly produced on and off Broadway and at regional theaters throughout the country.   Our playwrights are also shaping writers’ rooms in LA, sending their Chicago stories to living rooms around the world.  Chicago Dramatists has also supported the craft of playwriting by teaching playwrights at all levels, including high school students at some of Chicago’s most underserved schools.
