Burning Nights CRPS Support began as a small UK non profit organisation to help those with the chronic pain condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
Burning Nights CRPS Support was set up by its founder Victoria Abbott-Fleming who has suffered with CRPS since an accident at work in 2003. Her symptoms were so severe and extreme that she has had to have both legs amputated above the knee as a result.
Although CRPS has been a recognised medical condition for more than 150 years, its exact cause is still unclear. It is often un/misdiagnosed and awareness of the condition is poor.
CRPS may develop after injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack and can affect anyone at anytime. It causes persistent, severe and debilitating pain. The pain is usually confined to one limb, but it can sometimes spread to other parts of the body.
The McGill Pain Index is a scale that shows the rating of pain. It places the condition as being more painful than amputation of a finger without anaesthetic or even childbirth.
CRPS can have devastating life changing effects not only for the sufferer but also their families and friends. More and more people are being diagnosed with CRPS and yet there is very little support available to them. Burning Nights CRPS Support aims to change that by providing support to sufferers and their carers whilst at the same raising awareness of what is often a debilitating condition.
We are a newly formed charity and are raising funds to help us with increasing awareness of the condition both within the medical profession and amongst the general population; whilst at the same time offering support to sufferers and their carers.
Burning Nights CRPS Support is now a registered charity in England and Wales (Registration No. 1166522)
