Brooklynne Needs Knees!
Brooklynne's perspective:
Easter weekend and week were really bad days for me! Why, you ask? I'll tell you... I need new knees now! You see, I was having the time of my life on Easter weekend this year (2016) - chasing birds and squirrels in the park, and chasing my dog-mommy too! I thought I was going to win the gold medal in the Chubby Pup Olympics for "Squirrel Chasing!" And then it happened! I don't really remember the "moment" it happened but my mommy says that when we were walking home from the park - I was walking funny... so I know it happened in the park... My left KNEECAP decided it wasn't going to sit on my knee anymore! I just know it hurts - a lot!
My Perspective:
While Brooklynne told her story, very accurately, I'll give you the details. I am a LMSW (Licensed Master Social Work) and I work in Hospice Care. We live in Queens, NY just my sweetheart pooch - Brooklynne and I.
Brooklynne has a "torn ACL" (in human terms) of her left knee and needs surgery to repair it. She also has a very loose ACL on the right knee and the surgeon has advised to fix both knees at the same time - otherwise we do surgery again in the future... I've gotten a second (and third) opinion and a surgical consult, actually a couple of them, and the least expensive surgery quote is almost $4,000 (and that's NOT INCLUDING the $800 post-surgery follow-up appointments and initial PT for her). I've already spent my limited savings on her initial visits with her vet and the x-rays and consults for the 2nd, and 3rd opinion and surgery consult ($1,100) - this is NYC! And, I expect there will be more charges as we go forward. In order to even schedule her surgery, I have to have the $4,000 to pay for it, up-front. No payment plans available. That's why I've turned to you for help.
The hurtful part is, I've been giving her medicine per her vet's instructions and she's still in pain. I saved her to give her a pain free life and now, she's back in pain. She had been used as someones own personal ATM machine, pumping out a few litters of pups. The woman I got her from told me "take this dog, she likes you! I can't stand this dog and I'm taking her to the pound - I hope they kill her!" I took her immediately!! Brooklynne's main goal in life is to greet me when I come home from my Hospice job and cuddle and snuggle like I had been gone for years and she needed to make up the snuggling time. She is my emotional support dog, she licks my tears when I cry for one of my patients and she plays with me to forget the pain of others that I deal with every day. Please help me get her fixed up and back to her old self again - I need her, and she needs you!
