Help Brody Recover—Pit Bull Attack

Donation protected

My name is Shea and my boyfriend's name is Mike, and we have an absolute perfect German Shepherd who (although he may look a little scary), is nothing but a big lovebug. Unfortunately for us, Brody and I were attacked by someone's pit bull who they lost control of. While I was beat up from trying to defend Brody, he still suffered from a severe bite wound to his chest, and the pit bull owner is no where to be found.

The pit bull had latched onto Brody's chest and yanked back hard. We immediately rushed Brody to the Friendship Vet Hospital, where he went into emergency surgery. He came home with us that very night, with a drain in his wound to prevent infection and his wound stapled shut. He was seemingly getting healthier (we stayed with him 24/7), with normal appetite returning.

Unfortunately, his wound became infected— the skin around the staples had died and would need to be removed in a second surgery. We didn't hesistate because we love our Bubs—he's a healthy dog and still alert and doing well regardless of his infection and wound.

Brody was given his second surgery, and the treatment this time around was to fill the opened hole in his chest with a saline gauze to soak up the liquid that is being discharged as he heals, prevent infection and hopefully sew him back up in 5-6 days.

After meeting with an orthopedic surgeon, he told us that our best bet for Brody's healing would be a vacuum. It would require Brody to stay in the hospital for 5 days with 24/7 care, with the surgeons closing him on the 6th. This would be the fastest and safest way to ensure the infection is gone and Brody heals in the best way he possibly can.

Sadly, this would cost us $7,000-$10,000.

Brody is our baby boy—he is absolutely a non-negotiable. So we're going to fix him no matter what. His vitals are healthy, the tissue is already starting to heal back, his white blood cell count is healthy and his organs are all healthy. He doesn't deserve to miss another 7 years of life because someone else couldn't control their dog. He's our family and we're doing whatever we can to heal him, which the vets have told us is as guaranteed as it can be.

So we're asking you for help, GoFundMe world. Please help us pay for this treatment and get our Bubs back home and healthy. We're always happy to provide follow up photos as he continues to heal and return to his happy, bouncy, and loving self.
