Help the British Women's Gliding Team win for GB!

What do we do and why do we need your support?

The British Women’s Gliding Team are looking forward to representing our country in the Women’s World Gliding Championship 2019, which will take place in Lake Keepit, Australia.

With your help we can get the British Gliding team and our support crew out to Australia, to compete and bring back the medals!

Just as the British Women’s rugby, cricket and hockey teams did for their sports, so we want to give women in gliding a bigger profile, and get more women involved in the sport. At the moment only about 6% of glider pilots are women. We want to change that.

We were successful in bidding for the 2021 Women’s Worlds, which will now be held in the UK and will raise the profile of the sport, and the UK, internationally. So, we want to be there defending our Australian gold medals!

Your help can make that a reality.

The team would be grateful of even the smallest amount, whether you are an individual or a company.

– If you are a glider pilot and want to pledge an amount for a cross-country coaching day with one of us, please scroll down to see the link. –

Because we want you all to feel part of the team too, you will receive a heartfelt thank you from us:

The British Team pilots do a huge amount for the sport in this country:

• We are founder members of Women Glide UK, an initiative to encourage more women into the sport
• We launched the British Gliding Association’s Women Project
• We managed the UK’s successful bid for the 2021 Women’s Worlds, which will be held in the UK and will raise the profile of the sport and the UK internationally
• We volunteer as instructors and cross-country coaches in our respective home clubs on a weekly basis
• We work in various other voluntary roles in UK gliding

Who are we?

Liz Sparrow, former top ranked woman in world gliding, competing in the 18m Class
Ayala Truelove, twice silver medallist at Women’s World Championships, flying in the Standard Class
Claudia Hill, current top ranked woman in UK gliding, competing in the Club Class
Melissa Jenkins, our Team Captain; the team captain doesn’t fly, but is a vital member of the team as she looks after the logistics and liaises with the organisers and the other team captains
