Bridget's Recovery Fund

$6,260 of $2,300 goal

Bridget was stolen from her home during a house invasion on 12/20/17.  She was found in below freezing temperatures in the early morning hours of Christmas eve on the side of a rural road.  She was curled up near some bushes trying to stay wam in the freezing temperatures.  She was alive, but was injured and bleeding.  She was rushed to the emergency vet for care. Someone had stollen, purposfully abused, and hurt poor Bridget.  They cut her leg with a knife, starved her, and inflicted barb wire wonds to the top of her head.  She had to be admitted as an in-patient at the vet for treatment, intervenous fluids, stitches, tests, and continued observation to ensure she was stable before going home.

Bridget's sweet nature and ever present smile captured the hearts of many people who saw her story.  We are so grateful for all the assistance people were willing to give to help find her. We assume that the attention she received on social media put pressure on the criminal and spooked them into dumping her in the middle of the cold winter night .  We wish she could tell us her tale, but we may never know exactly what she had to endure with the criminal who stole her.

I have added a photo of the first vet estimate in the photo/commets section, which represents the first goal. Bridget will need ongoing care to ensure she heals well. Her owner has already spent hundreds of dollars in the search for Bridget before even receiving the first vet bill.

She had several deep lacerations on her front leg and needed stitches. They were clean cuts traveling in generally the same directions and were likely inflicted by a knife.  The cuts were infected and she will require ongoing antibiotics.  Bridget was exhausted, dehydrated,  had blood in her stool, and required intravenous fluids. However, becuase her sole is full of love, she was happy to see everyone and was wagging her tail. We can't wait for her to be ready to go home.

I am hoping to help her owner, Geoff Hoffman, pay her vet bills sine he has been through so much.  He has worked tirelessly searching for her and went above and beyond normal efforts to find her. He would pay anything to make sure she is healthy and at home, but I am hoping to at least cushion the blow of this rough week by at least having her vet bill paid. Neither Bridget nor Geoff deserved this to happen to them as they are some of the sweetest beings you will ever meet.

We are so grateful to everyone who has shared and helped! Even though it is awful someone stole her and abused her, we have been blown away by the kindness of people and it has given us hope.

We want to get her back to her happy self again.

Bridget says, "I've had two more vet visits. The vet opened up one of the many bumps on my head and said that it was most likely a puncture wound from when I was trying to get out of barbed wire and that I may have lasting scars. Daddy has been helping me clean all my wounds with hydrotherapy treatment. I am on my way to being back to my happy, healthy self. Thanks guys!"

Bridget says, "This cone may be annoying, but at least I'm not outside in this weather that feels like 5 degrees! Thank you to all the donors who have helped me!"

Thank you to everyone for your support so far. Bridget is now at home recovering, but will need ongoing care. She has been exhausted and slept 14 hours straight. She has been pretty good about not licking her stitches and has spent minimal time wearing the annoying cone. Bridget says it is much easier to cuddle without the cone around her head!
Bridget is home, but still recovering!
Merry Christmas from Bridget!
So happy to be in bed cuddling with dad.
