Help Build Boston Islamic Center

Asalaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatu,
May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon you!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
14 Years ago a masjid was established in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston by a few Somali brothers and sisters who sought to create a place to worship Allah (SWT) and raise a community filled with educated children and families. They rented a small house and immediately began teaching Quran and the fundamentals of Islamic education to all ages, from the very young to the very old.

Throughout the 14 years this institution has been running, more than two dozen individuals including men, women, youth and elderly have completed and memorized the entire 30 Juz of the book of Allah (SWT). Despite the lack of space, every weekend this tiny building holds hundreds of students of all ages for their year long intensive Quran and Islamic courses. The Boston Islamic Center (BIC) has no doubt been a home for hundreds of active members, a refuge from the daily challenges of the common immigrant struggle.

BIC has been a healing home for us, young teens, who are looking for a place to learn about our Creator and connect with our friends at a deeply spiritual level. It has given our brothers an alternate path from a destined life on the streets and provided our sisters with a platform through an initiative called Strengthening Islamic Sisterhood. Growing up in the inner city of Boston has been a great challenge, but our dedicated teachers have alleviated those burdens by providing us with sports and other recreational activities.

The building we have been renting for 14 years, the one we have called home for so long, is up for sale and we need to find a new home as soon as possible. We have found an active church on 50 Cedar Street, Roxbury, MA that contains 18000 square feet of land, including a parking lot that can hold 50-65 cars. Our parents and teachers have been canvassing throughout Massachusetts this week fundraising. The money raised through this campaign will go towards buying and renovating the property.

Its our turn as youth to do our part. Please, with your generous donations, help Boston Islamic Center enlarge to create a sustainable and comfortable masjid for its growing membership base. It is time for Boston Islamic Center to grow, will you be apart of it?

“The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day; perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance” [at-Tawbah 9:18].

Ibn Maajah narrated from Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow’s nest or even smaller, Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Among what continues to accrue for a believer of his good works after death are the following: knowledge that he learned and then imparted to others, a pious child whom he left behind, a copy of the Qur’ân that he bequeathed, a mosque that he built, a guest house he built for travelers, a river that he made to flow, and charity he spends from his wealth when he is in good health – all of this continues to avail him after his death.” [Sunan Ibn Majah]
