Mama Pilista Medical Clinic, Kenya

Tax deductible
Bonyo's Kenya Mission (BKM) is a 501c3 in the USA and a registered NGO in Kenya.

BKM provides health, education, resources, and hope for the impoverished people of Masara Village and the Nyanza District in Western Kenya.

BKM reached its 20th year of operation in 2015!

Since its humble beginning, when basic health care was provided under the shade of trees in competition with the roaming cows, BKM has developed into a 24/7 brick and mortar facility.

Now providing full time, on site comprehensive care at our facility known as The Mama Pilista Bonyo Memorial Health Center, BKM is looking toward the future and how to be a long-term, self-sustaining entity.

Building our own hostel will assist in reducing lodging expenses for volunteers traveling to Kenya to work at the clinic.

This campaign is how we hope to fund our hostel, along with the contributions already received from our generous founding members.

Additionally, having our own lodging will provide for the opportunity of inviting global support groups to assist at the clinic, such as the Peace Corps, Student Ambassadors, and others. The joining of these forces will provide additional care, training, education, and support to the local people who live in ever-increasingly extreme poverty with little to no resources or local support.

The hostel will provide twenty-four efficiency units, a common kitchen, and a dining / conference room. It will sleep 42 volunteers!

With your help, we will be able to complete the hostel, which has been started and is near completion of Phase II.

There are two phases planned for the hostel. Phase I was the foundation and completion of the ground floor. Phase I was completed at the end of Summer 2014.

Phase II is a second story added to the hostel and adding in all of the finishing touches, such as furniture, linens, paint, and appliances.

The hostel progress as of January 2015:

The hostel is located only about twenty minutes from the clinic, saving over an hour each way, every day, of travel over rough roads.

Please contribute, as you are able, to our Hostel Campaign!

Any funds raised over the expense of building the hostel, or over the set goal, will be used to continue the mission of BKM through the Mama Pilista Bonyo Memorial Health Center, and our many other Kenyan projects, such as school and child sponsorship.

Thank you for reading and please forward this campaign on to all of your email, Facebook, Twitter, and other friends and contacts, to help us reach and exceed our goal!

Asante Sana! (Thank you very much!)

100% of funds collected by BKM are used toward the mission of BKM. We do not have any employees in the USA, and do not pay any wages in the USA.  BKM provides jobs for several Kenyans, in Kenya, as a means of operating the Mama Pilista Bonyo Memorial Health Center, which is in line with our mission statement.

Following is more information on the Mama Pilista Bonyo Memorial Health Clinic, and the beautiful people who live in the area. Please enjoy the read....

The Mama Pilista Bonyo Memorial Health Center is located in the lowlands of Kisumu County, Kenya, near Lake Victoria. Although the area is very wet, with a good bit of rainfall, water is a critical element in the survival of the people. Very little potable water is available to the people. Most fresh water resources in the area are infested with malarial mosquitoes, schistosomiasis, farming run off, pesticides, and other unhealthy elements. The major crop in the area is rice. The local people work every day in wet, hot, and unhealthy conditions.

Rice Farmers, harvesting rice:

Bonyo's Kenya Mission sponsors approximately sixty orphaned or vulnerable children. These children live in the villages surrounding the clinic. BKM also provides school supplies, computers, books, and uniforms to many of the local primary and secondary schools. On our most recent trip, we 'adopted' the Osembe primary school, which has been severely disregarded by the government. BKM has promised to give each child who passes their Senior Exams a 10,000KS scholarship. We donated a computer to the school, which has no electricity, and are working with local officials to assure the school is supplied with electricity. Meanwhile, the students are welcome to use the computer at the health clinic. The school needs new buildings, many supplies, wages for the teachers, and so much more. There are 124 students at Osembe. BKM has promised to do what we can...

Seniors at the Osembe Secondary School just hearing the news of the promise of a 10KS scholarship for passing final exams, by Dr. B Bonyo:

We sponsor the Masara Primary and Secondary schools, which are located just next door to the clinic. For the 2014 year-end exams, the top three students NATIONALLY were students at the Masara Secondary school!! This is proof that our sponsorships are making a big impact on the lives of these people!

Students at Masara Primary received new shoes!

Bonyo's Kenya Mission's main objective is health care for the people of Masara and the Nyanza District. The clinic provides 24 / 7 care for the local villagers, and also for people from miles around. The clinic has developed into a brick and mortar, 21 room facility, offering pre- and post-natal care, testing and educaiton of HIV / STD / STI status, prevention of mother to child HIV transmission (PMTCT), counceling for discordance / concordance in couples (HIV+/-), risk reduction / condom use, family planning methods, alcohol and substance abuse, tuberculosis (TB), nutrition, National Health Insurance services, wound care, inpatient care, laboratory services, eye clinic and glasses distribution, pharmaceuticals, childhood immunizations, outreach, and more! More and more babies are born at the clinic without having contracted HIV from their mothers, and children are living longer and healthier lives!

Pre & post natal care means healthier babies and mothers:

Robert accidentally spilled boiling tea water on himself. He had second and third degree burns on his arm and torso. We were able to care for him as an inpatient over several days, and avoided severe infection.

Our full service laboratory checks patients for a wide array of health concerns, helping patients receive proper care and medication. Corzon is our dedicated lab technician.

Volunteer American medical staff do morning rounds with Kenyan medical staff who work at the clinic.

Community Outreach is performed at remote locations.

Babies are immunized and tracked for well-baby care.

Life-long friendships are made.....
