Help Save Barnaby’s Life On Earth

$13,100 of $19,000 goal

Raised by 419 people in 14 months
I’m Barnaby an 11 month old Devon Rex kitten who started life on an alien planet and landed on earth to live with an amazing human family. My parents are the best parents a cat could ever dream of. On Sunday April 15, my mom and dad saw I didn’t feel well and took me to the vet who sent me home with some antibiotics and assured them I would be fine. My mom stayed up most of the night with me because she was worried and knew in her gut something was really wrong.

She took me back to the vet the next morning and after some more tests and an ultrasound they gave my parents the choice to put me down or rush me into an emergency surgery that I needed... without it I most certainly would not make it through the night. They told them I had a lot of serious complications and might not survive the surgery. My parents believed in me and told the doctors to please save my life. Very late that night the surgeon called my mom and dad and told them the prognosis was grim: my colon needed to be resected, I had black lymph nodes and my blood pressure was dropping. She asked if she should continue the surgery as she had not seen anything like this before and didn’t think I was going to make it.

My parents continued to believe in me and asked all their friends and mine to send all their thoughts and prayers my way, the surgeon carried on and by some miracle, I survived. I’m still in the hospital in critical condition fighting for my life, but I’m doing it!My parents have done so much and took a big leap of faith to help keep me alive and now I need you to help them!

They would be forever grateful for any support you can give, even if that’s just to share this with other people.

If you want to learn more about the amazing life I’ve had so far, you can see what I’ve been up to on Instagram...

Sharing Barnaby’s life has been a profound experience. My brother made this tribute video to honor Barnaby and all of the amazing people and animals that touched his beautiful life. As you may or may not know, Barnaby was named after the character, Barnaby Tucker, from the musical Hello Dolly. This was his favorite song and we played it for him since the night he came into our lives. Feel free to share it if you like. Thank you again for all all the love, support and donations. We miss Barnaby every day and are so grateful to all of you for everything you’ve done for our family.

Much love,
Tammy and Wes

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the outpouring of love and support during this challenging time. We are grieving and miss our little alien boy more than anything, but there has been joy in celebrating his life with all of you and healing in the love and support you have shared with us.

We would love to close the GoFundMe chapter of Barnaby's life. We know so many of you have shared our page, many of you multiple times which is how we have raised over $12,000. Our ask is for you to share it one more time. On Instagram, Facebook, Email or however you can or want to. We believe that if every one of you shared this page over the next week one more time, we would reach our goal and that would help us immensely not only financially, but to have some closure.

So many of you have reached out and asked that we continue to keep Barnaby on Instagram and I want to let you know that Barnaby will continue his journey in outer space and wants to share those adventures with you. There are many ways he will do that in the future, but he doesn't want me to tell you as it is classified galactic presidential information.

Barnaby's Uncle is making something special that we want to share with all of you. So many of you have already shared your pictures in the comments on our page and they cheer us up every time we see them, but we'd love to have more.

If you'd like share a photo with me so we can include you please email it to me at wakingtheactor@gmail.com If you're a furrriend who likes to wear clothes, this can be a photo of you in your "Sunday best" or maybe in one of Barnaby's special bowties. Or if you're a furrriend who goes au natural, that's cool too.

Thank you for everything you've done. This has been a challenging and profound experience that has touched our lives forever.

Tammy, Wes and of course, Barnaby

Hello everyone,

It is with a sad heart that I share with you that we had to say goodbye to Barnaby last night. He had a decline from when we
took him home on Sunday and even before the vet confirmed it, I knew it was time to let him go. We were willing to do anything if it meant he could have a good quality of life. If there were any medication or treatment that would have worked we would have done it.

Unfortunately after medical intervention, the medicine at home did not work for him and I could see that his body could do no more. Wes and I were always willing to try as long as he wasn’t in pain and could have a good quality of life but the moment that became an impossibility, we would not keep him here for a moment longer. Because as much as we love him and as much as he has been a stubborn fighter through this entire process, being good parents meant putting his best interests ahead of our feelings.
Our incredible vet told us that we had done more than she had ever seen people do, and they had all been so hopeful up until this point. Barnaby had lit up the lives of all the vets, assistants and staff at the hospital. They shed tears last night with us. They told me his photo was the screensaver on their giant flat screen in their back office because when we took him home they all missed his sweet face.
Wes and I were both with him, holding him as he passed. He was not in any pain and he winked goodbye to me.

We are very sad but know that this was the only decision and don’t regret any choices we made along the way. While we didn’t get the happy ending we were hoping for, we are glad that we tried as hard as we did because Barnaby is worth it.
Thank you for all the love and support you’ve given. Please know, that if we don’t respond here or on Instagram right away, we appreciate your thoughts, prayers and messages and will reach out again when we feel ready to do that.
Please snuggle your loved ones extra close today and every day. As Barnaby has taught us, all life is a miracle.

From the bottom of our broken hearts,
Tammy and Wes

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all of your prayers and positive thoughts, for supporting our family and for sharing our page!

I’m happy to tell you that Barnaby was able to return home. We are praying it is for good this time. The meds they gave him worked and he looked and acted like Barnaby for the first time since before the surgery (albeit a little thinner.) Our plan is to continue these new stronger meds at home (three times a day.) Our incredible vet believes he will most likely need them for the rest of his life assuming his body continues to respond to them. She wanted us to know that we are not out of the woods, but she is cautiously optimistic again as opposed to how gravely concerned she was when we admitted him. We are more than happy to give Barnaby this extra care forever if it means he gets to stay with us on planet earth. Lots of kitties out there need special care and we are a family that is prepared for that, even though it was not evident that he would be one of those kitties when we got him.

Our new plans is for a check up on Sunday (assuming all goes well and we don’t need medical treatment at the hospital before then). Sunday will also be Barnaby’s first birthday and we are very excited to have the opportunity to celebrate it. While we won’t be able to give him the giant pizza that he wants, we will have a little party for him with all of you at @barnabyfromouterspace on instagram.

We our so grateful to all of you for being on this rollercoaster with us. It’s been emotionally challenging and we are hoping the near future is calmer and easier on all of us. Thank you for continuing to get our story out there. It means everything.

When we reach our goal we are planning a big surprise for everyone and a bow tie party on Instagram with all our furrriends who got bow ties from @mrsnowbowties who has made special Barnaby from Outer-space bowties! 50% of the proceeds of all the bow ties have gone to helping us and that will continue through the end of May so if you haven’t gotten yours yet, you can get them here: https://www.etsy.com/market/mr_snow_bowties

We have had so many people do creative things to help raise funds for Barnaby and we’ll continue to introduce you to those incredible people here and on instagram. This truly is an amazing community and we had no idea about how wonderful, generous and supportive it is until Barnaby’s life was threatened.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.... Barnaby will be posting lots of stories and photos today on Instagram to tell you about this latest adventure. (His word not mine.)

❤️
