REVIVE A RENOWNED MISSION HOSPITAL – AND SAVE LIVES!
A GoFundMe Campaign by Kurt Thrasher Coming Full Circle: Carrying On A Passion For Medical Excellence And Compassionate Care.

Hello, my name is Kurtis Thrasher and I want to share with you an adventure that has brought me full circle in this amazing life I’ve lived, and ask for your help with something that is near and dear to my heart.

In November of 2017 I embarked on the quest of a lifetime – a journey back to Bandung, Indonesia to find my birth family and learn about my heritage as an ethnic Chinese Indonesian. I was also hoping to find a way to carry forward the vision and mission of my adoptive dad, Dr. Neil Thrasher.

In the two months I’ve been here in Banding, I’ve been amazed at the results of my quest! With help from Bandung Adventist Hospital where I was born, I have met my biological brother and sister for the first time. I’ve also discovered I have eight half siblings and a wonderful bunch of nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, etc. What a life altering experience! I’ve also found a way to carry on the legacy of my adoptive dad and give back to the country of my origins.

About Me-
I was born in Bandung, Indonesia at Bandung Adventist Hospital in 1966. My birth mother passed away from postpartum sepsis when I was just three days old.

When I was ten days old, I was brought into the home and family of Dr. Neil R. Thrasher, who was Director of the hospital at that time. I was soon adopted by the Thrasher family and moved with them to the U.S. in 1967. I never knew my birth family, but I grew up being proud to be a son of Dr. Thrasher, who was an amazing man.

About My Dad – My Inspiration
After graduating from medical school in 1948, my dad made a decision that would define his life and satisfy both his devotion to God and his adventurous spirit. Instead of settling into a comfortable and lucrative practice, he answered a call to move to Southeast Asia as a medical missionary. Over the course of his long medical career, my dad spent a total of 32 years in Southeast Asia, focusing on Bandung, Indonesia where he was instrumental in establishing and expanding Bandung Adventist Hospital where I was born.

This hospital became renowned for medical excellence and compassionate care. My dad had boundless energy, a sense of humor, curiosity about anything unusual, and an appreciation for everything Asian.

With his overarching compassion and kindness, he developed an avid patient following that included scions of elite families, top government officials, banana vendors and subsistence farmers, all of whom were almost as impressed by his command of the local languages as they were by his medical skills.

The Need-
When I returned to Bandung Adventist Hospital to find my birth family and retrace my dad’s career and contributions, I made a shocking discovery. This once-renowned hospital is crippled with an antiquated IT system that is nearly 40 years old! The hospital is staffed with highly trained professionals who are capable of delivering top-quality care. But the paper-based records, systems and processes backed by an outdated IT infrastructure create delays in healthcare delivery – and this has a real and measurable impact on lives! My dad would never allow circumstances such as these to become the status quo, and neither will I. That is why I decided to start this GoFundMe campaign to procure the funds required for an up-to-date IT system.

Fundraising Goal-
Our goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31st, 2018. This will enable Bandung Adventist Hospital to purchase a system-wide, turnkey upgrade that includes hardware such as servers, routers and wireless access points, and Adroit software that will modernize patient registration and records management.

Why You Should Care-
The new IT system will save lives by enabling faster delivery of critical health services. It will also restore Bandung Adventist Hospital to its former renown as a provider of the best healthcare services in Bandung. Join this legacy of compassion and care – and make a difference! $50,000 may sound like an insurmountable goal, but each of us can make a real and measurable difference in the lives of others when we join together to tackle a worthy project.

These funds will be deposited to a shared BCA bank account jointly held by Bandung Adventist Hospital Marketing and myself. These funds then will be paid directly to CLODS.ORG on completion of the IT project.

Think about it, each contribution, however small or large, makes a difference. Each contribution is an act of caring and generosity that creates a ripple effect felt clear around the world – all the way to Bandung, Indonesia, the city where I was born, and to Bandung Adventist hospital, the place my dad lived his mission of kindness and compassion toward God’s fellow creatures.
