Bad Time for Bun Bun!

Donation protected
Meet Bun Bun! :) He is our rescue rabbit that we love to the moon and back. There is nothing we wouldnt do to save his life! He is just a wee *treasure* ;)

When we go out to have fun, we sometimes like to photoshop wee Buns into the picture so he is a part of our adventure ;)

Bun Bun is a *special needs* bunny due to his very sad start in life :(

Glass & I found Bun Bun on the side of the road almost 6 years ago. He was within an inch of his life near a defunct petting zoo. We bought him home with the understanding that sadly he may pass on during the night as he was in pretty bad shape. He had been attacked and had bites over his stomach and hind legs (bites in his ears and his nose from previous attacks) and was very skeletal from the neglect he had received at Uncle Stu's Petting Zoo.

To our *delight* though, Bun Bun pulled through and he has now been a part of our family for almost 6 *magical* years and we couldn't imagine life without him! :D

On April 15th, we woke up expecting it to be like any other *beautiful* Saturday morning. We went to greet Buns in the kitchen (where he decided he wanted to live) to give him lots of cuddles and kisses as we do each morning. Our excitment very quickly dissapated when we noticed Bun Bun had only *nibbled* at  his overnight veggies. This is NEVER a good sign for rabbits! Wee Bun Bun is normally a remorseless eating machine (to quote the Sea Captain from the Simpsons) :D

(NOTE: Bunnies need to graze constantly so if you notice they haven't eaten within 4-6 hours you NEED to get them to a vet VERY QUICKLY as there could be something very wrong and it will be fatal if not attended to)

We rang our vet Exotic Animal Care Centre in Pasadena to book buns in with Dr Kanfer (The best rabbit doctor in all of LA ) ;) We had no choice but to rush him in as an emergency.

Buns was diagonosed with GI Stasis,  Anorexia, Urinary Tract Infection (caused from a previous Sludge diagnois). :(

This was the beginning of our 4 month+ journey of getting our baby back to looking like this!

...and another one ...because why not? Look how *cute* he is :P  What a *dream boat* :)

Buns doing a big Cosby impersonation for a treat :D
Please note: we taught him how to do Bill Cosby impersonations before the world knew he was all creepy :D

After this diagonosis,  Bun Bun's health had deteriorated beyond our abilities to care for him at home, so he needed to be boarded multiple times over the first month with a veterinary tech and our lovely friend Kate Duffy :) (who did an *amazing* job by the way!)

Once Buns's health improved a bit, I was able to bring him home (thank goodness... it just didn't feel like home without him!). By this point he'd had a feeding tube sewn into his nose as he is one of the most WILFULL rabbits our Doctor has ever met and would refuse to be syringe fed his Herbivore care... Bun Bun is such a wee *rascal* :P

At this point in our journey, Buns had also developed Fatty Liver disease due to the fact he had lost alot of weight from the anorexia and being difficult (not allowing anyone to syringe feed him). He also needed a catheter put in place as poor wee buns couldnt urinate on his own due to the UTI that started it all.

Poor Buns had to have a cone put on so he wouldn't tear his catheter out. He's still in good spirits however as you can tell by his calm stretched out posture!

For the past 4 months, poor Bun Bun has had set back after set back. As soon as we healed one health issue, another one would crop up from something prior. Our poor wee man just couldn't seem to catch a break, but thankfully every condition was treatable. Some of the predominant conditions we have been treating Bun Bun for are:

Anorexia/GI Stasis
Urinary tract infection
Renal disease
Fatty liver disease
Upper airway infection

Because of Bun Bun's condition, he has needed around the clock care from morning until midnight including:

-Tube feedings every 2-3 hours, including four oral medications twice daily

-As many as 7 injections per day

-Nebulizations treatments to help with his Upper Airway Respitory infection

-Sub Q fluids to help with his Kidney Disease

After four very long and emotionally crippling months, Bun Bun is finally starting to show major improvements...YAY!!! He is still not 100% but he's in great spirits and is back to his old self emotionally. We're confident that we can get him completely better!

In the meantime, I still need to be home with him as often as possible, so I'm only able to work 2-3 days per week. I'm very blessed that my work has been super understanding and has been very accomodating to my situation allowing me to work late nights so I have the morning with Buns to give him feedings, shots, sub q fluids and nebulization treatments ect.

My husband works fulltime.

Financial support :)

This is where we ask you wee lovelies to come in :)

This is one of our more recent invoices.

The bills have piled up beyond anything we could have imagined! In just 4 months between vet visits, boarding and  and having to use Uber if I wasn't able to get a lift to the vet (my husband couldn't keep missing work). The bills have added to over $10,000!

We do have heath insurance for Bun Bun through Nationwide Pet insurance so we thought we were covered. Sadly they have only covered a little over $2,400.  We are incredibly *grateful* for this, it is such a blessing! :) Unfortunately they didn't cover anywhere near what we were led to believe they would when we signed him up for the pet insurance.

I was mislead to believe that they would pay up to 90% of all the major expenses like bloodwork, ultrasounds, X-rays ect., and would pay up to $7,000 per year - $2,000 per illness. Buns having had multiple illnesses during the past few months,  we believed we would be covered and everything would be fine, but sadly this is not the case.

What they neglected to mention (as I just found out)  is that they only have small portions of money allocated to certain diseases and illnesses - one example being $21 for dental issues.  Buns had to have teeth surgery which cost $703.50 as they had overgrown from not eating for such a long period of time.

These bills are creating an incredible amount of stress for us as we just can't keep up with the payments.

Every dollar contributed is taking such an enormous burden off of our family and it's INCREDIBLY and sincerely *appreciated*.

Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read, share and to donate to Bun Bun's Vet Bills and for helping us to give Bun Bun the second chance he so very much deserves! We utterly *adore* the ground upon which he hops and count our lucky stars he is still with us!

Buns giving his best "tough guy" face. Don't tell him he's too adorable to pull it off!
