I’m turning 25 on February 8th, 2017. I’ve never had a birthday party or have asked for gifts in the past; this year I’m looking to do something a little different. For the past three years, Babetalk has been the personal documentation of my team’s dedication to our music community. Unabashedly we’ve volunteered our time and money for the benefit of our friends, friends of friends, and strangers within our scene. We love what we do and I want to make sure we’re able to continue to pursue our Babetalk venture well into the future. With that being said, welcome to the Babetalk Birthday Fundraiser!
Babetalk is a music website. We’re dedicated to showcasing the hard working efforts put on by members of our collective music community. From Promoters, Sound Engineers, and of course, musicians. Our program first started as a “videocast” on July 2, 2014 with a panel of individuals interviewing a band member. The Summer and Fall of 2014 were filled with conversations about artistry, creation, mental health, and so much more. December of 2014 brought about the creation of our website Babetalk.tv, the next step in our promotion of the community. Our first new set of features introduced to Babetalk.tv included a showcase interview of Somos, Gideon, and Gates. We then began to publish Musical Reviews, Opinion Pieces, even began to enlist a team of photographers to document concerts. Now with our readership of 50,000 annual members and over 3,000 hours of our content enjoyed on YouTube alone, we’re reevaluating our marketing strategies in the hopes to better deliver our content while always striving to improve our community outreach.
Why are we looking for donations? We want to do more for our audience and our guests! We have server costs that is able to keep site traffic moving quickly and smoothly for our readers. We also have promotional items that we’re looking to have produced by mid-year for events and shows around the US and Europe that we would like to distribute. We have other costs and expenses that your donation will cover, 100% to the benefit of Babetalk.
For the longest time, I’ve never approached the public with money for Babetalk. Being a journalist within the music community is tough. The first priority is always promoting the bands. Without the bands, we wouldn’t have a website. But there comes a point in which outlets like ourselves need to be honest and ask for funds to continue to do what we do. Babetalk encourages the purchase of a band's latest EP, going out to their shows, buying their latest merchandise. So now, for one week, I’m asking that everyone from bands to fans, donate 5 dollars to us. That’s all we’re asking. If ¼ of my friends' list were to donate a dollar to Babetalk, we would have enough to keep the website going for a full year out of pocket. It would ease our financial responsibility and leave funds for more productive tools, promotional items, and more. I’m not planning on going out and partying to celebrate my birthday, I’m not asking for gifts for myself to personally enjoy, I’m asking for donations that will go towards something that is much bigger than myself.
The Babetalk team has spent the past two and a half years promoting the bodies of work for others; it’s what we do. I’m damn proud of the work we’ve accomplished since 2014. I sincerely hope that others will recognize the forward progress we’ve made and will want to be apart of our, so far, successful journey.
