Beaverton Public Schools Robotics (BPS Robotics) is a 501(3)(c) focused on supporting FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Teams in our community. We support STEM and STEAM. Our organization helps set up and maintain FIRST Robotics teams. With our experience we help guide new team setup and organization of their finances as well as the technical needs. Our teams run workshops during the summer for both kids, mentors, and coaches. BPS Robotics is currently starting its twelfth robotics season! In the past 11 years we have helped engage countless students in STEM activities, helping students gain skills they will use throughout their college and professional life.

BPS Robotics currently funds two main FRC Teams. Team 1510, The Wildcats, and team 2898, The Flying Hedgehogs. Both teams are located in Beaverton, Oregon. Although housed at Westview High School and The School of Science and Technology, respectively, we encourage students from all over the community to join our teams. In 2011, our two teams were comprised of students from over 11 high schools. Students on both of these teams represent many different cultures and backgrounds.

Just recently, we have also helped mentor and start team 5970, Beavertronics, a new rookie team started in the 2015-2016 school year. This team is housed at Beaverton High School.

Besides our two flagship FRC teams and the newest addition, Beavertronics, we also help support and mentor many other FTC and FLL teams within the community. This mentorship and support helps us build our teams from year to year, as FLL and FTC team members move up to FRC throughout their secondary school career.

I’m sure you can imagine, that running multiple FRC teams comes at quite a hefty price tag. It costs approximately $25,000 to support a single FRC team every year. Our expenses include (but are not limited to) team fees, competition registration fees, travel and food for competitions, and of course, supplies to build the robot. While we do receive grant funding, this is not enough. We still need to charge a team fee and club fee to our students and we fundraise within our community as well. To help with our fundraising efforts, we have started with GoFundMe platform and are asking you for your support.

The main team budget does not include travel if either (or BOTH) our teams make it to the World Championship Finals in April. And we have a very strong track record for qualifying for Worlds . We have qualified for Worlds 6 out of the past 11 years. The sad part is, that if BOTH or teams make it, we might not be able to send both to the World Championship. Your donation helps make sure that both of our teams will make it to Houston, Texas this year for the FRC World Championships!

What is FIRST Robotics?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization which provides three levels of robotics competition for students aged 7-18. Along with teaching practical skills in STEM and business related areas, FIRST promotes the affective needs of students coining phrases such as "Gracious Professionalism" and "Co-opertition." The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is the highest level of robotics competition that FIRST offers. Students have 6 weeks to design and build a fully functioning robot, weighing approximately 120 pounds. You can read more at the First Website.
