Anthony's Blue Knight Tour Fees

Hey! My name is Anthony Cherry, and I am a senior at South Pointe High School. I was just awarded a contract with the nationally-known Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, based in Denver, Colorado. I am reaching out to ALL of you, asking for your moral and financial support in this great endeavor which I am about to take on. For those of you who do know me, I hope that you will endorse what I am about to share with all other recipients of this letter. As I respectfully believe that it is important for you to first know something about me before I make an appeal to you for your support.
Since I was 10 years old, my goal has been and still is to join the Air Force and become a pilot. While in middle school, I was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a local auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, and was twice awarded South Carolina Cadet of the Year. This program nurtured the values of discipline, community service, comradery and dedication. When I entered high school, I was already playing the saxophone and joined the marching band. As a dedicated member since 9th grade, I am proud to say that I have also been playing tuba for the past two years. I have gained valuable life skills such as perseverance, leadership, and loyalty. I have also experienced the woes and thrills of defeat and victory. Aside from being a responsible student and band member, I have spent several summers as a volunteer between Piedmont Medical Center and the City of Rock Hill Youth Service League. I am an active church member and volunteer in the children’s ministry. Last summer 2015, I worked two jobs – at Carowinds Amusement Park and Fewell Park’s Discovery Quest Day Camp. It was actually an honor to work at the camp because I was selected to become staff, having volunteered there for the previous summer. Most recently, I worked at McAlister’s Deli on S. Herlong Avenue for several months after school. When I return from this life-changing experience in August, I will be 18 years old on the 17th – and able to pursue recruitment into the Air Force. My purpose of such an introduction is to show you that I am focused, hardworking, responsible and passionate about succeeding in all that I do. To receive a contract to march with the Blue Knights requires all of the life skills and values mentioned above – and dedication. I have already participated in several of the monthly training camps in Denver, which are running through May, at which time I will “move” there to begin the national tour for 2016. I plan to fly out right after graduation on June 4. The total cost to march with the Blue Knights is $2,900. This fee includes traveling expenses, food, housing, and other necessities. Since I just received the contract, I am on a very strict timeline to pay for membership. I am stepping out on faith to ask each of you for a donation of at least $50. Please understand that this is an experience unlike any other I have had, and I really hope you can help me achieve my goal to be a part of it!
