BIJOU & BABIES NEED RESCUE

BIJOU’s story is a sad one.
Bijou was found tethered to a fence last week with her newborn puppies in a dirt hole beside her. Another dog was also tethered nearby. He, sadly, was already dead.
Bijou herself is emaciated, all ribs showing drastically on arrival. She clearly had not eaten in a long time. She was terrified and resultingly aggressive with staff at first encounter, but the staff has been slowly working with her and have been gaining her trust on a daily basis. She has relaxed considerably with those staff, even letting them handle her puppies. HOWEVER, Bijou is still a work in progress and still needs people to earn her trust before she relaxes with them. This protective mommie will give ample warning with a growl and hackles raised if she feels you are moving too fast towards her puppies. It’s an improvement from where she started though and with what this lady has been through, we are hopeful that the right support will do wonders for her.
Bijou is very food-motivated and we have used treats with great success to earn her trust. She appears to have gained a little weight already and has willingly allowed her friends to redirect any warnings.
Due to all the above factors, Bijou needs a very experienced and committed rescue to help her raise her pups and provide the necessary support to get her into the right home. After 4 days, her 6 pups are all still doing well but the sooner this delicate family is rescued, the sooner they can get the help they need.
