You can’t spell BEST without BES!
That’s our motto, and if you know us, you know it’s true!
Our students, parents, staff and the entire Boonville School community are what make us the BESt. It truly does "take a village" coming together for the common good of all, and we are grateful to be learning, growing, thriving, and making memories here.
Our school is located in the Foothills of North Carolina in the small rural town of Boonville. We are a low-income, Title 1 school, serving approximately 365 students - preschool through 6th grade. We receive limited funding from state and federal resources and rely heavily on fundraising to help with our bare necessities.
We currently have a need that we are unable to fund from within. Our Leveled Text Libraries, or book rooms, need a great deal of help. Teachers use these book rooms to check out leveled books to use in their classrooms.
Our Leveled Text Libraries are separate from our school media center and operate differently. The books are grouped in sets of 6-8 so each student in a reading group will have an individual copy. Depending on the grade level, a teacher may need up to 10 sets of books per week. You can imagine that it doesn’t take long for books to become worn when so many eager readers are turning their pages.
If you watch our intro video, you’ll see that many of our books have been well-loved. Our students and teachers take great care of our books, but wear and tear over time is inevitable. The covers are tearing, pages are worn and falling out, and many sets of books are no longer usable.
Our school needs…
· New copies of our favorite books to replace those with torn covers and missing pages.
· Many new titles/sets of books to keep our eager students reading.
· A greater selection of non-fiction text to help teach new concepts and meet curriculum demands, because our students deserve the resources they need to help them learn!
· Plastic containers to hold new sets of books and replace broken containers.
· Labels to help organize books/containers.
· 2 book shelves to store our new books.
We know all about working hard to raise money for our school. Over the past few years we’ve worked hard to get new cafeteria tables, a new playground, a new awning and a digital sign for the front of our school… We know how to get things done! Unfortunately the time has come when our needs far exceed our funds.
