 Help for children with Autism

I have spent most my life working with and for people who have varying disabilities. I believe that these children are extraordinary gifts, they have many talents and skills. It is up to us to bring forward those skills and enhance their lives. This is the path I’ve been shown in life and the challenge laid before me.

After 20 years of working with Individuals with special needs, I gave birth to a beautiful child who was diagnosed with autism over a year ago. This twist on my life has now put me in the shoes of the parents I serve, which I wear proudly. My first thought, (with all my years of experience), was “I need to get ABA therapy started immediately”.

Why ABA? I have been amazed by the growth and progress of the children I worked with while doing ABA. Although I had spent most of my career as a speech and developmental therapist. ABA, (applied behavior analysis), therapy provides individualized behavior and academic intervention for children with autism. It is used to help individuals with autism live happy and productive lives. ABA therapy can foster basic skills such as looking, listening and imitating, as well as complex skills such as reading, conversing and understanding another person’s perspective. ABA therapy completely encompasses all therapies used to treat autism and attacks all deficits systematically and intensively.  I have had the pleasure of witnessing its amazing effects.

 My child and other children living with autism are the reason I come to you today. After having worked for many therapy providers I have become aware that their interest is not the children, It’s the money.  I have not been able to find the quality of programming I expect to see when serving this population. I have concluded that since I can’t find it, I’ll create it.....

This is where my request for your help comes in.  I am simply a hard-working mother who wants to provide quality therapy and programming for her child and other children with autism. I have found two wonderful partners in this field who have the same passion, drive and dedication as do I. One of my partners are a brilliant Board Certified Behavior Analyst with many years of experience working with all ages. She has an admirable work ethic and shows great dedication and enthusiasm. My other partner is a loving and dedicated Registered Behavior Therapist that thrives on helping children acquire new skills and reach new heights.

This is a program built on, not only knowledge, experience and dedication, but love and determination. I know how hard it is to be the mother of a special needs child. Parents are often forced to leave their jobs because many daycares are simply not equipped to provide adequate accommodations or staffing for our children. Howard Intervention Center, Inc. will provide parents with the support they need. We have a strong curriculum of skill acquisition, socialization, and intensive ABA therapy modified to fit the needs of each child individually. Each child will receive their own state certified behavior therapist. We are determined and committed to making a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

This program will be truly amazing for the children in our community. There are no programs like it for miles around.  My partners and I are extremely close to bringing this center to a reality in our community. Everything is in place, we have a great cause, a fantastic location, and a talented team. The only thing missing is you… 

With proper funding, the Howard Intervention Center is going to help children all over the world get the kind if help that is going to allow them to live their lives to the fullest!
