US Aphrodite Temple

$880 of $3,300 goal

Laurelei Black  SPRINGVILLE, IN
It's time to make a physical temple for Aphrodite's worship in the United States. The temples of old (scattered throughout the Mediterranean) are lovely ruins, but the world needs working temples -- places where devotees can interact with the Gods and Goddesses, ceremonies and celebrations can be hosted, and instruction in the Mysteries can happen.

This crowdfunding project will help the Temple of Aphrodite to:
* build a 3-season temple structure suitable for personal and public celebration
* buy or commission an icon (statue) of Aphrodite for use in the Temple
* decorate and equip the Temple with furnishings, fixtures, and basic supplies
* design and create a surrounding garden for outdoor celebration and meditation
* build and equip a workshop/teaching space

The Temple will be located on the grounds of Midian, an event and festival space in Springville, Indiana -- south of Bloomington.

We would like to extend these Expressions of Grace for your contributions to this project:
$10 -- Your name added to Laurelei's prayer shrine
$20 -- PDF copy of Crown of Violets
$50 -- PDF copy of Aphrodite's Priestess book
$100 -- Signed paperback copies of Aphrodite's Priestess and Cult of Aphrodite
$250 -- Previous rewards, PLUS a cowrie shell reading by Laurelei
$1000 -- All four of Laurelei's books (signed) PLUS your inscription on the Wall of Benefactors
$5000 -- All previous rewards PLUS an alcove shrine established in your honor within the temple

Since 2002, Laurelei Black has been a consecrated Priestess of Aphrodite, and her work has included writing books, leading ceremonies and festivals, teaching classes, and tending to a small woodland shrine of the Goddess of Love and Beauty.

On April 1st (Veneralia) several of us were at Midian for a work weekend. We got so much cleaned up from the winter!! Fundraising has been slow for the Aphrodite Temple project I started years ago when a rift in my local community separated me from my beloved Aphrodite Shrine near French Lick. But I vowed then to re-establish space to Her. We've been using a beautiful little shrine space near where we knew we would eventually build the larger "temple" -- the tenemos aphrodites. We've been putting in Midian's infrastructure and trying to build a solid foundation these last three years on the limestone of this once-upon-a-time rock quarry that we have reclaimed.

This weekend, my beloved, a few friends, and I started clearing the stones that blocked the path the place where the shrine and temple will sit. We cleared some brush and adapted some plans.

I still have the same vision for this temple that I have always had, but it is a "slow-burn" sort of project, I think. At least, it will be at our current rate. =) And that's okay. We can take this in phases. I just want the Aphrodite Community to know that I am still committed to this project. We've raised $500 in 4 years, and I am so grateful! In the next few weeks, I am going to show the beautiful woodland-grotto-garden I can create for Aphrodite with just $500.

And we'll get to the bigger goals as we continue raising funds.

I'll be back at Midian next weekend (to work on a different project, technically; but I always spend a little time with Aphrodite while I am there). I will take some picture of the site so we have documentation of the process.

Wow!!! The Temple of Aphrodite Asteria Project just received a donation that has brought us up to the $300 mark! We are still some distance from our goal, but we are making GREAT progress. My family, friends, and I did AMAZING things with just $300 at the site of the shrine shown in the attached picture. To see what I mean, check out this blog post: http://aphroditespriestess.blogspot.com/2012/05/aphrodite-shrine-at-our-haven-history.html

To a fellow Priestess, I send this donation with my prayer support for Aphrodite's temple. Aphrodite smiles down on you for restoring devotion to her in this time in history. I serve the Goddess Hathor, so we both serve the Goddess of love & beauty in our own way. Blessings of the Golden Goddess! Reverend Donna M. Swindells fellowship of Isis
