New Station For Volunteer Fire Dept

Donation protected
32 years ago the city of Antelope Oregon was invaded by Rajneesh and his group of followers, who took over the city and ran most of the residents out of town. The damage they did, we may never fully recover from. However the one good thing they did for the city was to build a very small and simple building that we now call our fire station. That building served us well for many years, but as the community has been slowly recovering, and our old fire trucks have been slowly wearing out, we have outgrown the small building.

A couple of years ago, Depot Bay Fire District blessed us with one of their old engines when they upgraded. It was a huge improvement over what we had before and has been truly great. The only one problem is that it's too big to fit into our fire station! So that leaves it parked outside all year. During the summer months that leaves  all the on-board equipment, including our air tanks (SCBA's), vulnerable to vandals and thieves. During the winter we experience heavy freezes and snow so the truck has to be totally drained and put out of commission from November through March. That leaves our whole city protected only by our old 1975 Ford that has a hard time running and an even harder time pumping water. Plus the fact that our little city sits 40 miles from the next closest fire department, so by the time back-up arrives, any house would be a total loss.

Aside from not being able to fit our best engine inside the structure, we are left with hardly enough room to walk between the vehicles, and no room to store much needed tools and gear. Plus our medic unit is such a tight fit, that it scrapes the sides if we are even 3 inches over to far when backing inside.

Our fire department is 100% volunteer and we don't collect any tax money from the residents, our only funding is hardly enough to pay for electricity at the fire station and required insurance on the trucks, it leaves no room for improvements or repairs.

So I'm calling on you: The people of the world to lend us a hand.  We aren't asking for a million dollar fire station with all the latest features like you see in the big cities. We're only asking for enough to build a simple pole barn, just big enough to fit our trucks inside of.  Something to keep them safe and out of the weather, ready to save someone's house or someone's life. All the labor will be volunteer work from members of our department and city, the price is for materials only.

If this campaign is funded, it will be helping each and every person who lives out here to sleep better at night, knowing that if the unthinkable happens, they will be protected.
