On December 21st Andrea Mirabal, an FIU Anthropology student with a passion for global health and international development, was finalizing some of her Christmas shopping when she was involved in a minor fender bender near school. The former Miss FIU pageant winner and current President of the GlobeMed organization on campus, exited her vehicle to inspect the damage of the two cars involved in the accident when a third crashed into them; regrettably pinning Andrea between the original two cars. 
She was on the phone with her father explaining to him the details of the original accident when the second occurred. Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported Andrea to the Trauma Center at Kendall Regional Hospital where the doctors labored for over 4 hours on emergency surgery on her legs.
While the initial prognosis indicates that Andrea's legs both experienced multiple fractures, another surgery is scheduled soon to determine the next step. What is certain is that it will require the type of determination Andrea's close friends and family consider the norm from her in concurrence with months of physical therapy in order for her recovery.
This gofundme stands as a call to the entire FIU community, students, faculty, and alumni alike, as well as the greater Miami community to help Andrea in a time of great need. Those that know her best understand that her positive outlook on life is carrying her through this circumstance.
