La nostra è una storia basata sull’amore e sulla passione che condividiamo per poche cose: i gatti, i maglioni natalizi inguardabili, il cibo e i drammi.
Shane ed io ci incontrammo la Vigilia di Natale del 2015, dopo che mio padre mi convinse ad accompagnarlo per portare all’”inquilino americano” un Pandoro e una bottiglia di Prosecco. Prima ancora di notare lui, vidi due gatti e fu subito amore a prima vista (per i gatti, si intende).
Dopo aver messo le cose bene in chiaro e concordando sul fatto di non volere una relazione seria, Shane dovette partire per lavoro e andare per più di un mese in Portorico. Entrambi reputiamo quelle settimane come l’inizio vero e proprio della nostra relazione, dato che ci rendemmo conto di quanto effettivamente tenessimo l’uno all’altra.
Da quel momento tutto proseguì come in ogni altra “normalissima” relazione: lui incontrò la mia famiglia, io conobbi due sue zie venute in vacanza dagli Stati Uniti, organizzammo dei weekend romantici in giro per l’Europa...con la sola differenza che nella nostra storia niente è normale.
Il suo contratto di lavoro a Vicenza sarebbe scaduto nel 2019, quindi pensavamo di avere quattro anni per conoscerci e decidere come far evolvere le cose. E neanche a dirlo...Tutte rose e fiori (o quasi) fino a quando ad agosto del 2017 arrivò la notizia che lui dovesse tornare in pianta stabile in America per lavoro. In sei mesi cercammo di organizzare la sua trasferta e la mia di conseguenza, che comunque sarebbe avvenuta a distanza di qualche mese. Lui affittò una casa, spedì tutti i suoi averi e a gennaio del 2018 partì alla volta di Providence con due valigie e tre gatti.
Da allora cercammo di trovare il modo migliore per riunirci e chiedemmo persino il parere di un avvocato per l’immigrazione, che non si rivelò un grande aiuto. Il 18 giugno mi imbarcai su un aereo per raggiungere finalmente Shane. Quello fu l’inizio di un melodramma che il Titanic in confronto è una storia a lieto fine!
Ad oggi, siamo ancora in attesa del visto che permetterà a me di entrare in suolo statunitense e a noi di stare finalmente insieme.

Non sappiamo ancora quando potremo sposarci legalmente, cosa che avverrà una volta che io sarò arrivata negli Stati Uniti, e quindi ancora non è chiaro quando o dove trascorreremo la nostra fuga romantica...ma nel frattempo ringraziamo tutti voi per il supporto e per l’affetto che ci dimostrate.

Our story is based on love and the passion we share for a few things: cats, ugly Christmas sweaters, food and drama.
Shane and I met on Christmas Eve 2015, after my father persuaded me to accompany him in bringing a Pandoro and a bottle of Prosecco to the "American tenant". Before I even noticed him, I saw two cats and it was immediately love at first sight (for the cats of course).
After agreeing that we did not want a serious relationship, Shane had to leave for work and go for more than a month to Puerto Rico. We both consider these weeks to be the real beginning of our relationship, as we realized how deeply we held each other in our hearts.
From that moment everything went on like every other "normal" relationship: he met my family, I met two of his aunts who had come on holiday from the United States, we organized romantic weekends around Europe...The only difference is nothing is normal in our relationship.
His employment contract in Vicenza would have expired in 2019, so we thought we had four years to get to know each other and decide how to move forward with our relationship. Everything was all sunshine and rainbows (mostly) until August of 2017, the news came that he had to return to the U.S. for work. Over the next six months we tried to organize his trip back to the U.S as well as my trip later that year. He rented a house, sent off his belongings and in January 2018 he left for Providence with two suitcases and three cats.
Since then we tried to find the best way to be together and even asked for the opinion of an immigration lawyer, who did not prove to be a great help. On June 18th, I boarded a plane to finally reach Shane. That initiated a drama that made the Titanic look like a knee slapping comedy bit.
To date, we are still awaiting the visa that will allow me to enter US soil and for us to finally be together.

We do not know yet when we can legally marry. We will have to wait until I have arrived in the United States, so until then we can't be sure of when or where we will spend our romantic getaway...but in the meantime we thank all of you for the support and for the love that you show us.
