A word from Alex aka Stinky: Hi all! Thank you so much for visiting my page! I am a traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor. I deal with a host of different symptoms including constant debilitating migraine pain, light and sound sensitivity, nausea, balance issues anxiety, depression, confusion, and more. I use assistive devices like a walker or a wheel chair.
Before my injury, I was wildly active. I was in my last semester of college and looking into PhD programs in Philosophy. I debated, ran multiple clubs, and worked. I had set myself up to graduate a semester early and work for a few extra months before starting grad school.
Unfortunately, the injury knocked everything off course for me. While I did end up finishing my undergraduate degree much later than intended, I have been unable to consider my dream of graduate school. I suffered a second brain injury that left me in the hospital for weeks. I am currently unable to work, drive, or do basic self care. After years of trying different treatments, I finally found something that touches my pain and gives me a significantly higher quality of life.
The problem is affording them.
The Treatments: The treatments I need are intense infusions of ketamine and propofol. They can only be done in the doctor’s office because they are anesthetic medications delivered intravenously that help people with severe chronic pain. Not many doctors do these treatments yet because they are intended for worst case scenario patients. Insurance rarely covers it.
In my case, I have to travel 7 hours to a doctor who does the treatments. I have to receive 3 to 4 infusions over a course of about two weeks, so the medical and travel bills add up incredibly quick. In addition, these treatments are necessary every 3 to 4 months. As you can imagine, this will quickly leave me drowning in medical debt.
I am so grateful that my amazing online community has come together and created this page so that I have a shot at being able to afford these treatments that will allow me to pay it forward to them and spend more time with them<3<3<3
