Mission Possible: Africa Bound

Peace and blessings to you.

My name is Victoria Gregg and for the past two and a half years I have been working on Akata Documentary, a film which traces my journey to uncover my family’s history. My journey started off with a DNA test and which eventually snowballed into an adventure of discovering my connection my enslaved ancestors and meeting distant relatives.

*Definition of "Akata - Nigerian slang for African American*

I'm excited to report that the Akata Team and I have almost reached the final stage of production. Today, we are asking you to join the effort to help us complete the film. For the past two and half years, we have self-funded this project and unfortunately, we have exhausted our funds. We have one final segment left to shoot which requires us to spend one month in West Africa. We want to ensure the authenticity of the film by visiting the exact places where my ancestors originated.

One of my objectives with this film is to inspire African Americans to become interested in their own personal genealogy. My second goal is to attempt to strengthen the relationship within the African diaspora and of course promote Black/African businesses (via product placement).

Our goal is to raise at least $10,000, which will provide 2 international plane tickets to Africa, as well as domestic flights within the continent to 7 different countries. See below for a thorough breakdown.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am for your support. This dream has been a lifetime in the making, your donation is a gift to reconnect me to my ancestors with the hope of inspiring my community to make their own pilgrimage back to the Motherland. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.  I look forward to whatever support you can provide, and I look forward to sharing my West African experiences with you!

God Bless
Victoria
