After his complete spinal cord injury (T6), Tyler is now in a wheelchair with no movement or sensation from the mid chest down. Doctors are not optimistic, but Tyler is determined and we believe in miracles! Let’s come together and help him drive again, using an accessible vehicle!
All the donations received thus far have been very much appreciated and have helped so much in the last few months. Now we have to step it up and try to reach a much higher goal! Tyler needs a vehicle that is accessible and he can drive and his wheelchair would be accommodated. These vehicles are VERY expensive and because this wasn’t a workplace accident everything Tyler and his family needs will be funded through supporters like you!
Tyler was the sole provider and him and Jennie are now feeling lost in what’s next in their lives. We want Tyler to gain independence and be able to drive himself to his physiotherapy sessions and appointments and run errands on his own. Independence is SO important in recovery, as Jennie herself knows well. Vehicles are a huge part of that. Jennie’s license was taken away for two and a half years after she got sick, making the recovery mentally and emotionally a lot more difficult. We want to try everything we can to help Tyler while he adjusts to a new normal. This is going to be a very difficult thing to do.
Because Tyler has no use of his legs an assessable vehicle for him would have hand controls for the steering wheel, the accelerator and the brakes.
Let’s help Tyler gain some independence back and raise enough money for an accessible vehicle!!
On March 22nd 2019 Tyler fell twenty feet and landed on his back, causing a complete spinal cord injury (ASIA A), meaning he doesn’t have any sensation or movement below the mid chest area. This is a permanent condition.
He spent 10 days in the ICU and another 4 weeks at Kingston General Hospital before moving to Providence Care, a rehabilitation hospital. He has been in rehab for a month learning how to maneuver his wheelchair, practicing transfers from the wheelchair to other surfaces, and working on balance and strength in his arms and shoulders. He is doing fantastic, but there is still a lot of work to be done and he will be at PCH for at least another month.
Tyler and Jennie have two young girls, Maddie, 4 years old and Marlee, almost 3 years old.
Three years ago to the day Jennie suffered a brain infection while she was pregnant with their youngest daughter, throughout that scary and long battle,Tyler did everything in his power to be with Jennie and be there for his family. Now we are coming together to ask again for donations, shares, and prayers while the family adjusts to a new way of living once again.
