Family in Need

While most of us are enjoying the holidays, a family in our community is struggling.  Three girls are about to lose their mom and sole parent to colon cancer. Having immigrated, they have no family or friends here to turn to, so the kids (ages 18, 15, and 12) faced being placed into the system as wards of the state while also dealing with the loss of their mom.

Each of the three girls is incredibly bright and headed on a path that would make any parent proud, but this crisis risks disrupting that. The oldest sister is pre-med attending college in Colorado on a swim scholarship. She is studying to become a fetal surgeon and heads back to school for winter training next week. The middle daughter is sassy and stubborn and is obsessed with social media. She broke her hip last year and is slowly transitioning back to her former glory in swimming and running. The youngest girl is sweet and maternal. She is a swimmer and star runner.

A fellow family, whose children share a common bond of swimming, selflessly stepped up and agreed to become their guardian in order to provide a loving and stable home while allowing the girls to stay together. This family thought they had a few months to prepare, but hours after meeting with a lawyer to get the paperwork drafted, the mom needed to be rushed to the hospital.

The mom will be transferred to hospice care in the coming days, but both families now need your support. Please help us raise money to ease the pressure of the mounting bills that both of these families are now facing.  Beyond the added costs of raising three voracious teenage girls, they have to contend with hospital, funeral, and educational expenses.
