AMA - Collegiate Chapter National Trip
Please help the University of Michigan-Dearborn chapter of the American Marketing Association go to their national conference in New Orleans!
The AMA at the University of Michigan - Dearborn is committed to helping
students build their social and leadership skills, while learning to network
and gain professional experience. In
order to fulfill our goal and help students become the best they can be, we
hold many events, go on tours, attend conferences, and participate in competitions
that hone our marketing and professional skills.
During the 2012-2013 school year our leadership has
taken the AMA to new heights by participating in events and setting goals that we
previously felt unimaginable. For
example, to start the year we planned a College of Business Picnic, the first
ever of its type. This event was a way
for all students to learn about the different business organizations, hear
about the initiatives going on in the College of Business, and for
organizations to recruit new members.
The AMA also competed in multiple competitions held by the AMA International
Headquarters, including Outstanding Marketing Week, where collegiate chapters
held a week-long event full of speakers, workshops, and other fun mini events. The week went off better than planned, with
average attendance of roughly 40 people per event and over $500 raised for
future marketing weeks. These two events
are just part of what the AMA has done for the first time this year, others
include: AMA Regional Case Competition, Website Competition, AMA Saves Lives,
and multiple new fun events/fundraisers all organized, marketed, and ran by AMA
members.
In hopes to grow our members professionally and
show them the vast opportunities available for marketing students we often go
on tours, bring in speakers, and attend fairs relating to our field of
interest. This year we have gone to
Google, Team Detroit, Valassis, and even took a trip to Chicago where we toured
the AMA International Headquarters, and Leo Burnett Advertising agency. The purpose of these tours is to showcase
what exactly a marketing degree can lead too, because often people fail to recognize
the vast opportunities available for students.
Not only does this open the eyes of students, it also provides
networking opportunities with potential employers, and puts us front of mind
for job openings with these companies.
As a group we have worked extremely hard on earning
recognition from our community, our school, professors, and classmates. Each of these events and competitions have
been done in hopes to help us in accomplishing our major goal for the 2012-2013
school years, attending the International AMA Competition in New Orleans during
March. At this competition chapters from
across the world are able to compete against one another and are recognized for
the work they have done; this is also an opportunity to network with
professionals, schools, and companies from across the United States. Most importantly, this event is a way for us
to commend ourselves on the new heights that the AMA has reached, recognition
we most certainly deserve.
In order to attend this trip our members have done
fundraisers, consulting work, and used grants from the school. However, the funds we have raised do not
cover the entire trip and each member needs to pay a substantial sum to attend
this conference. Therefore, a donation
will allow for our organization to send 12 of our members to the International
AMA Competition this March. These funds
will not only help with financing our trip, but will allow our group to
continue holding events, attending conferences, and do many of the things that
we have done this year and more for years to come. Our organization would be grateful for
anything you are able to donate!
Thank you :)
