Computers for Hohoe MAE Primary School

My name is Gideon Commey, a Ghanaian environmentalist and a Chevening scholar. A couple of months ago, I saw this video you just watched and it broke my heart! These are students of Hohoe MA Experimental Primary School in the Volta Region of Ghana. They use stones as computer mouse for ICT lessons in their school which has a population of 587 (314 girls and 273 boys) pupils. But I was also highly inspired by the drive and commitment of their teacher, and the sheer enthusiasm of the children to acquire computing skills under such discouraging circumstance. They certainly do not want their limitation to be a barrier to succeed and that is why they need help.
Growing up in a similar environment as a schoolboy, I understand how difficult it is to develop and be useful to one's family and society without these basic educational opportunities. My friends and I therefore want to do something about the situation.
The teacher spends 18hrs a week teaching ICT, and the school requires about 40 computers to address this problem. £65 can purchase 1 slightly used desktop computer from a local supplier in Ghana. We aim to raise funds for at least 15 of these, hoping that this will inspire other benevolent individuals and corporate entities to also support the school. Once we raise enough money, we will travel to the school, meet the teacher and children and hand over the computers before the end of March 2020.
I invite you to donate to this important cause. This will not only improve the school's performance in their final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), but also improve the self confidence of the students since some of them have not used a mouse or operated a computer before. Thank you!
