Patrick's Medical Fund

On March 28, 2016, our son, Patrick, visited the ER on recommendation of his chiropractor.  He was suffering from severe headaches, dizziness, slurred speech, and a myriad of other symptoms.  A CT and MRI soon revealed that Patrick had a benign tumor on his brain stem.  Approximately two weeks later, Patrick underwent brain surgery at KU Med to remove the tumor.  The surgeon was successful in removing only part of the mass.

Patrick returned home and over the course of the last year and a half, he has worked hard to heal, build strength, and adjust to a hearing deficit caused by a cyst and the tumor.  Symptoms continued to persist and ultimately, his medical team recommended that he undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments to reduce the tumor.  In a routine visit to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center two days ago (August 22, 2017) to finalize the details so that he could begin treatment revealed that his brain had swelled to a dangerous level, which means that chemotherapy and radiation are no longer an option for him - at least for now.  Salina doctors have referred Patrick to Phoenix for brain decompression to reduce swelling.

Our son is now facing a second brain surgery and a long road of treatment ahead of him as the doctors still need to figure out a way to shrink and kill the tumor.  This tumor, while not malignant, is causing significant nerve damage that has resulted in permanent loss of hearing in one ear.  Patrick is highly susceptible to seizures at this point, which is in large part due to the brain's swelling.  Left untreated, the tumor could potentially cause paralysis, blindness, and other impediments - some of which have already been detected.

We are uncertain of what the future holds, but in this we are sure - God is ever faithful and our son's courage and spirit is enough to bolster us all during this very challenging time.  As you have probably guessed, while insurance covers a large portion of his medical bills, Patrick's expenses are mounting.  The impending trip to Phoenix for brain decompression is only a small portion of the tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars that he will incur in medical bills and related expenses.  We are in the process of applying for disability benefits for Patrick.  In the meantime, because he is unable to drive, his ability to work has become severely modified.

Please consider making a contribution to Patrick's medical expense fund.  Any amount of money is appreciated.  No amount is too small.  We thank you in advance for joining us in this effort, and whether you can or can't participate through direct giving, please pray for our son and share his story.  He needs all the prayer and positive thoughts you can send his way.
