About Rogue Film School

I have been accepted into Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School. This is a huge honor, and something I had only dreamed of before now. First of all Film School is kind of a misnomer. It’s not a place to learn the technical aspects of filmmaking. I did that at UCA 12 years ago. It’s about taking your filmmaking to a deeper level, searching for truth and also learning some pretty cool stuff as well.

To get accepted into the seminar you have to submit a five minute film clip and write a short essay that Werner Herzog himself watches and reads in order to determine who is accepted. He only accepts up to 65 people from all over the world for each seminar, which happen infrequently. I submitted a five minute clip from my short film The Dealer’s Tale which I made with some very good friends in the fall of 2014.  Werner Herzog has made some of the greatest films in cinema history including Aguirre: The Wrath of God (Time Magazine’s Top 100 Films of All Time), Grizzly Man, Encounters at the End of the World (2009 Oscar Nominee for Best Documentary). To be able to learn from him and pick his brain on cinema is an incredible honor.

This year’s Rogue Film School is taking place in Munich, Germany March 18-21 which is why I’m setting up this go-fund me. I found out today (February 5th) that I was accepted. The cost to attend the seminar is $1500, which is due on February 26th. The rest of the money will go towards airfare (about $1500) and Hotel fees ($500). Any extra we raise would be donated to the River City Comic Expo, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit, in order to bring filmmakers to Little Rock for the film festival portion known as the Little Rock Picture Show.  This way we will be able to bring world class filmmakers to Little Rock for the filmmaking community here (myself included) to learn from them.

I hope to raise all of the money by February 16th, which gives us ten days to make this happen. I’m really excited about this opportunity, and really didn’t expect it. I hope I get to go. Thank you for your support, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Mallory gave me the Werner Herzog Collection for Christmas in 2014.
