Roberto's College Education Fund

Donation protected

I am raising money for a talented, smart, athletic, and kind young man (who happens to be an undocumented student) get to college.  No donation is too small!  Thank you for your kindness.

Roberto graduated with High Honors from high school in May, 2014. He was awarded scholarships to the local community college, Dixie State University. The school representative handed him a certificate for the Chancellor’s Scholarship at the year-end high school awards assembly.  At some point the college realized he was not eligible because of his status. Roberto learned it is state and federal law that undocumented students are not eligible for any state or federal funding.  Their hands are tied. Roberto applied for private scholarships as well, but did not qualify because of his status.

Luckily Utah does allow instate tuition for undocumented students so the $10,000 raised here will cover 2 years of college. (DSU website says yearly tuition and fees are $4,291)  Roberto currently has two jobs right now to pay for housing, transportation, food, and saving for college, but he needs help paying for tuition, fees and books. Without funding he may have to delay or forego college completely. He is registered for classes Fall/2014. Let’s help him make it happen.

Roberto is a very motivated and driven guy. He earned his scholarships through hard work and good grades. He will earn his college degree with your help.  I believe in this kid.  I hope you will too.

I believe that regardless of legal status, students should have the opportunity of higher education. By donating, we are improving the future of our community because the youth of today will rule the world tomorrow.

Fun Facts about Roberto:
He was brought to the US when he was 6.
His cumulative High School GPA was 3.91
He participated in Drama, Track and Field, Football, Latinos in Action, and Skills USA in High School.
He earned the Chancellor Scholarship from DSU (full tuition).
He earned a Sterling Scholar scholarship as well from DSU.
He taught himself to perform magic and card tricks. He entertains and amazes everyone around him.

*I know immigration is a hot button issue. Please keep this positively focused. This is just about one boy who wants the American Dream. I would adopt this kid if I could. Thanks!!!
