For Trayton, the best part of staying at the House was playing video games, while Mom cheered him on.
The Royer Family
The unthinkable happened to the Royer Family, when 8-year-old Trayton was diagnosed with brain cancer. Within two hours, Trayton's mom—with a baby on the way—packed a suitcase, grabbed her son and daughter, and left their Dawson Creek home for Vancouver. They spent the first few weeks living in the hospital and hotels, but eventually found a home at Ronald McDonald House, bringing a bit more normalcy back into their lives. Not only was the House able to bring their family together, it also helped welcome a new member of the family, with the birth of baby Annabelle during their stay.

For over thirty years, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon has been providing accommodation for seriously ill children and their families when they must travel to Vancouver for their child’s major treatment. The House serves 2,000 families each year in 73 spacious suites.
On June 2, 2014, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital was also opened. A House within the hospital, the Ronald McDonald Family Room serves over 700 families each year, and is a welcoming refuge for families of children admitted for treatment.
