Supporting Beaux

It all started with a sore throat and a cough...

This is our Beaux...an active, sweet, and highly intelligent nine year old boy who loves God, his family, and Minecraft. On Tuesday, February 28th, Beaux was seen by a doctor for a simple sore throat and cough. The doctor told Beaux's parents, Keith and Kasey, that he had asthma, and sent them home with an inhaler and a course of steroids. Beaux diligently followed the doctor's orders, but he began to have excruciating and unrelenting headaches. On March 14th, after three more doctor visits, Beaux finally received a lumbar puncture and was diagnosed with viral meningitis. Only a few hours after his initial diagnosis, Beaux started demonstrating weakness on his left side, and it was discovered that he had pus on his brain. Beaux was airlifted to UCLA hospital where he quickly went into surgery to clean the insidious infection out. Unfortunately, he lost a large portion of his skull, but exited that operating room with his precious life intact.

Beaux is now in stable but critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit. The doctors have not told us how long he will remain in the hospital. Although Beaux's condition is stable, he keeps having seizures due to severe brain swelling. Beaux's parents are two hard working individuals, but for obvious reasons, will be away from their jobs during this time which makes this already stressful event even more precarious. Keith and Kasey Houser are wonderful parents, and will do whatever it takes to make this the least traumatizing it can be for their son, which means traveling to UCLA everyday, or staying in a hotel...both of which cost money.
