Hoops In The Sun (HITS), more than just the average basketball league. We truly value Family, Teamwork, Honor and Prosperity.
Zig Ziglar said, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it”. The late Joe Cruz Sr., aka Pops, along with his two sons Joe Cruz Jr. and Randy Cruz founded HITS in the summer of 2000. They had a Vision, and today that vision formulated into one of the East Coast’s premiere Basketball Leagues.
Throughout the Year, HITS hosts over 44 teams within its six divisions starting from the age of 10 years old. Whether it’s the children, young women, or men playing; each division is filled with excitement, passion, explosive action, and overwhelming talent.
Recently it has been a Blessing and Great Joy in becoming part of the HITS family. I have known Joe and Randy Cruz for about 3 years. Their ambition, poise and passion are unmatched. Through working and attending social events with the Cruz brothers, they have shown to be genuine and loyal individuals, which made joining the team a No Brainer! I consider them my “Brothers from another Mother”. We enjoy helping people however we can, as well as making a difference in this world. I know we are only human, but Just One Man can have a major impact and make a difference. We intend to keep working towards changing Lives and help people reach their Dreams.
Therefore, we are reaching out for As Much Love and Support as Possible!

· Fans/Supporters- Bleacher Rentals and Giveaways are highly important. Anyone that attends the games or events, we want them to leave feeling fulfilled and knowing they had an amazing experience. Every time I am there, I don’t feel like I am even in New York anymore. It’s a great escape from the everyday hustle and bustle we deal with during the week. Having Bleachers allow fans to sit and relax while enjoying the games. The tournament starts at 10am and doesn’t finish until about 5:30-6pm; a seat would be greatly appreciated. In addition to enjoying some Fun in the Sun, we want people to walk away with a tangible gift. Whether it’s a T-Shirt, Hat, or other type of incentive…
· Players- HITS has some of the Best Ball players around. Players from our league get called to try out for the NBA, the D-League, Leagues Over Seas, Ball-Up, etc. Therefore, we want to ensure that they obtain as much exposure as possible. Basketball is their passion and they should be recognized for all of their hard work and talent. Like I said before, we want to help people achieve their Dreams. If playing professional Basketball is their goal, we want to make sure we do everything in our power to make their Dreams come true. Therefore, offering better Incentives for the Players and enhancing digital recording will be beneficial. From the Kids, to the young Women, to the Men; they ALL play their Hearts out on that court. And they should ALL be rewarded for all of their hard work, dedication, and great source of entertainment. Access to better digital recordings will allow us to create Highlight reels, Stream Live on-line, playback, etc. As a result, Generating more fans and creating more exposure for the Players.
· Expansion/Growth- Currently this is the 17th Season for HITS and the Sky is the limit from here. We are aiming for the Stars, but hopefully we land on the Moon. The tournament has only taken place during the Spring and Summer Seasons. However, why stop there!? We want to commence tournaments in the Fall and Winter Seasons as well. As fans we Love the game, and the Players are passionate about the sport; therefore having a tournament take place in every season seems like an obvious Step Forward. In addition to more tournaments, We want to branch off and Offer Other Programs for Youth and Young Adults. The Best is Yet to Come!!
Nowadays, it seems like everywhere you turn, there’s nothing but tragedy and sadness sweeping across this planet. Some people just sit back and watch, but we are actually trying to shed a little light on this World. Help us make a Difference, Help us Change Lives, Help Us Be A Blessing!!
