Huddersfield Change Project

Donation protected
The Huddersfield Change Project, founded in November 2015, aims to make a change to people on the streets or in a desperate situation in our area.  These people genuinely want our help - Loose change may help them in the very short term, but in the long run what they so desperately desire is a way out of the madness they find themselves in.

The project provides blankets, coats, footwear and warm clothing directly to those on the street, and our volunteers provide a warm drink, soup, a pie or a sandwich straight to them as opposed to giving them money.  In addition, those who want it will be directed, or if they prefer to go with someone, taken, to local services such as The Welcome Centre, Samaritans, The Basement Recovery Project and Lifeline who can all start the ball rolling towards rehousing, stability and even employment.

In addition, the HCP has plans for developing a unit where these people can come off the streets, even if just for an hour or so, and meet other people - With an additional plan for an entirely volunteer & public-pocket funded café providing free or "Pay as much as you can" meals and snacks.

The only thing the project does not do is give money directly to those in need.  By purchasing and giving out our own items, we are certain that they are heading in the right direction.  Those who appear to be, or who tell us, that they are in the Cycle of Drug and Drink addiction will receive the correct guidance and support to get full professional help to find recovery and a better life.

The project is in its early stages and has so far been funded entirely from the pockets of those involved, including my own, and also by the generosity of the people of the Colne Valley who have donated over 30 bags of clothing, bedding and food.  Regular "drops" of Orange Juice, Chocolate Bars, warm pies, gloves, hats and Toiletries have already been given to several "Regular" people on the streets of Huddersfield, with any surplus or bulky items being given to The Welcome Centre on Lord Street and Pass it On on Upperhead Row.

Without the continuing donations of these goods and some financial help, especially towards funding a new unit, the project cannot expand.  There are a number of exceptionally dedicated and willing volunteers already in place and, more importantly, a large number of people in need of our services.  But without your help, nothing moves on.  Nothing changes.

Please help us to help these people to help themselves to make a change.  Thank you for reading.
