Alvin Buckner's Esophageal Cancer
Donation protected
Alvin Buckner has been having problems with his esophagus for the last five years. He went to the doctor a couple of months ago with an intense pain in his chest. After a surgical procedure he found out he had an ulcer in his esophagus. The doctors biopsied the ulcer and found squamous cells cancer. After an exhaustive amount of tests it was determined that chemo therapy, radiation therapy and surgery would be his treatment plan. He started treatments a few weeks ago.
So far he’s had 2 Pet Scans, 2 CT Scans, Radiology Scan, 3 Upper Endoscopy's, Endoscopic ultrasound, He gets lab drawn weekly, consult with oncology weekly, chemo once a week for 5 weeks and 23 sessions of radiation over those 5 weeks. He also has had to start over 10 new prescription medications to deal with issues from this cancer.
After the chemo and radiation treatments are over the doctors will perform another PET scan which consists of injecting radioactive glucose solution by IV to determine any existing cancer cells or activity. Once that's determined surgery will be scheduled. The surgeon described the surgery as a complicated surgery in that he would need to cut out a part of his esophagus and pull some part of his stomach up to be attached to his remaining esophagus tube.
Alvin has worked in the helping and healing profession for over 30 years. As a therapist and most recently connecting abused and neglected children with foster and adoptive homes. He has helped numerous people throughout his life unselfishly in support and emotional encouragement and he needs us now to support him. He deeply appreciates each of you in his life and hopes you know how much you mean to him. After a few friends suggested GoFundMe to him he was reluctant to have to reach out to family and friends for this type of assistance but realized that many people really have been touched by him and would love to give back.
Alvin has a positive outlook about treatment and recovery from this rare type of cancer. It is costly to treat any medical condition and no matter how great your insurance is there is still alot of copay and additional costs to cover. He needs his friends and family that feel compelled to please assist him in paying for his medical bills by donating to his GoFundMe campaign.
Thank you for your help.
